Mamelodi Sundowns 2025-26 Season Review - Continental Glory, Domestic Disappointment
Mamelodi Sundowns' 2025-26 football season was defined by their triumphant second CAF Champions League title, ending a 10-year wait. Despite failing to win the league or any domestic cups after eight consecutive PSL crowns, the club's continental success was a major highlight. Key players, standout new signings, and moments like the semi-final win in Tunisia were bright spots. The club must address their slow playing style and inconsistent league performances. Anticipate a busy transfer window as Sundowns look to refresh their squad for new ambitions.

Mamelodi Sundowns 2025-26 Season Review
Did Sundowns Meet Expectations?
The Brazilians ended a 10-year wait for a second CAF Champions League crown. That competition was their priority and saved a disappointing domestic season.
In the league, they failed to win the title after eight straight PSL crowns. They also failed to secure any of the three domestic cup competitions.
In the end, the supporters and the club were delighted with continental glory.
Player of the Season
Once again, Sundowns relied on contributions from a number of players throughout a long season.
Keanu Cupido and Khuliso Mudau were excellent in the defence, and Aubrey Modiba was outstanding in the second half of the season.
There are also notable mentions for Brayan Leon, Teboho Mokoena and Tashreeq Matthews.
Performance of the Season
In all competitions, winning 1-0 away in Tunisia at Esperance in the CAF Champions League semi-finals was a highlight.
Beyond that, Sundowns won 10 straight PSL matches at one point with dominant, controlling performances. We rarely saw them at their free-flowing best.
Best New Signing
Brayan Leon scored 15 goals in 26 appearances after being signed in January. He was an inspired addition as he netted five goals in the CAF Champions League.
Nuno Santos picked up 10 assists and particularly excelled on the continent. In CAF action, he scored three goals and assisted five goals in 11 outings.
Khulumani Ndamane was also an excellent January signing, bringing aerial ability and physicality to the defence.
Main Areas of Improvement
Sundowns need to be a bit more free-flowing in their style of play. They have to get back to taking domestic trophies seriously.
Their away record in the league left a lot to be desired in the first half of the season, too.
Upcoming Mamelodi Sundowns Transfer Activity
It is expected to be a busy transfer window. Sundowns are tipped to sign at least one new winger, with Antonio Van Wyk and Siyanda Ndlovu on their radar.
We could also see a refresh of the squad in some areas. A new right back, centre back, left back and central midfielder could all be acquired.
Overall Season Summary – Mamelodi Sundowns
Overall, the season would have been a failure had they not won the CAF Champions League final. After achieving the holy grail, the players and coaching staff will be delighted.
In reality, Sundowns were not at their best for large parts of the campaign. The fans did not enjoy the slow style of play, but will overlook those concerns now that they have their “second star” on the jersey after CAF glory.
