Durban City vs Stellenbosch Predictions - Fourth Straight Draw Tipped Between These Clubs

Durban City face Stellenbosch with a 1-1 draw tipped in regulation time, suggesting extra time may be needed. Both teams have struggled for wins recently, and their last three head-to-head meetings have ended goalless. Durban City have only one win in their last 16 league matches but have excelled in CAF Confederations Cup qualifying. Stellenbosch have just three wins in their last 12 PSL matches but are unbeaten in four. Recent form and defensive records support the prediction of a close, low-scoring contest.

Durban City vs Stellenbosch Predictions

I see this being a close match with extra time being required. I’m tipping this to finish 1-1 in regulation time.

Key Stats – Score Draw Tipped

  • Durban City have drawn their last 3 matches vs Stellenbosch.
  • Durban City have seen BTTS Yes in 4 of their last 6 matches.
  • Stellenbosch have drawn 3 of their last 4 matches.
  • Stellenbosch have seen Under 2.5 goals in their last 5 matches.

Head to Head – Three Goalless Draws

These clubs met on three occasions. All three clashes have ended in 0-0 draws.

In their league meeting in September, it finished goalless in Durban.

Durban City’s Contrasting Form – League Struggles, CAF Qualifying

Durban City’s last 16 league matches have brought just one win. In the CAF Confederations Cup, they’ve won all four of their qualifying matches.

A 0-0 home draw vs Stellenbosch was followed by beating Rukinzo both in the first round of CAF Confederations Cup qualifying. A 2-0 loss at Orlando Pirates and a 1-1 draw at Milford came next.

After the appointment of new coach Eric Tinkler, they lost 2-1 in the PSL at home to AmaZulu. In the second CAF qualifying round, they beat Port Louis 3-1 at home and then won 3-0 in Mauritius in the second leg.

Just Three Wins in 14 – Stellenbosch Not Firing On All Cylinders

Stellenbosch’s last 12 PSL matches have seen just three wins. They’re unbeaten in four matches as they regain some form (DDWD).

A 3-1 home win over Marumo Gallants saw debutant Quwan Plaatjies score a hattrick. After losing 1-0 at Golden Arrows, Stellies drew 0-0 at Durban City and 1-1 at home to Sekhukhune United.

A key 1-0 win followed at Kruger United with just 38% possession. Their last match brought a 1-1 draw at Kaizer Chiefs in a strong performance.

Predicted Lineups & Team News

Durban City (4-3-2-1): Asare; Shandu, Ncanana, Mkhize, Mokone; Jurgens, Sanger, Poggenpoel; Sirino, Domingo; Lwamba.

Midfielders Kyle Jurgens and Gaston Sirino were taken off early on Sunday ahead of this match. Bandile Shandu was also given a breather and will start here.

Malian left back Alou Doumbia is battling John Mokone to start this one. Haashim Domingo has scored in the last two matches and will feature behind the striker.

Haashim Domingo could keep his place in a wide role after scoring last week. Samkelo Maseko will hope for a recall in this one.

Stellenbosch (4-3-3): Stephens; Nkwali, Msimango, Vena, Mashego; Blom, Matlou, Matsheke; Daniels, Kwayiba, Plaatjies.

Stellies will hand midfielder Njabulo Blom another start in midfield. Tluksani Mthethwa is a long-term injury absence in midfield.

Bradley Grobler may find himself on the bench once again. Coach Gavin Hunt could play either a back three or a back four depending on his approach.

Verdict

I see this ending in a 1-1 draw, with extra time required.
