  • Both teams to score as Rennes down OFI Crete.
  • Celta Vigo and Juventus to both find the net.
  • Ferencvaros to stay unbeaten by beating struggling Plzen.

Europa League Predictions, Round 2

Rennes vs OFI Crete

Rennes have four wins and one defeat in their last five league matches including an impressive 4-1 victory over Auxerre last time out. They beat Marseille and Angers during that run although their 4-0 defeat at Lyon suggests they aren’t completely bulletproof.

OFI Crete won four in a row before a 2-2 draw against Asteras Tripolis was followed by a 3-0 away defeat to AEK Athens. Their last win was an impressive 2-0 home win over Hoffenheim in their Europa League opener.

Rennes are extremely short favourites at 1.20 which isn’t worth the squeeze, but the more intriguing call is Rennes to win with both teams to score. OFI have scored 13 goals in their last six matches so they have goals in them.

Celta Vigo vs Juventus

Celta Vigo have won just one of their last five matches but with three draws they have shown how resilient they are. Their win saw them thump Racing Santander 5-0 but they scored just two goals in their other four matches and opened their Europa League campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Omonia.

Juventus have been more productive over the last month with two clean sheet wins and a draw, including a 5-0 Europa League demolition of NEC and a 2-0 victory over Atalanta. Their latest match ended all square at 1-1 against Cagliari.

Juventus are favourites for the win at 2.20 while Celta are slated at 3.30 while a draw is pegged at 3.40. I’m more taken with the odds of both teams to score at 1.85 as Celta have scored 17 goals in their last 10 home matches with just one clean sheet.

Ferencvaros vs Plzen

Ferencvaros enter this clash in excellent shape being unbeaten in 10 matches and picking up seven wins, although their last two matches both ended in a stalemate. They kicked-off their Europa League campaign with a powerful 3-1 win over Celtic and appear to have built considerable momentum.

Viktoria Plzen arrive on the back of a 3-0 home win over Mlada Boleslav having lost their previous three matches, including a 3-0 defeat to Union Saint-Gilloise in their opening Europa League fixture.

The sensible bet is for a Ferencvaros win which has a decent payout at 1.93 and with their form that looks a strong option.

Jagiellonia vs Ararat-Armenia

Jagiellonia have had a tough month with four defeats and one win in their last five outings. They have shipped 10 goals in that stretch including a 2-1 away defeat to Olympiacos in their Europa League opener.

Ararat-Armenia arrive on something of a high with 12 goals in five matches including three wins and a draw. Their one defeat in that run was a heavy 4-1 Europa League loss to Sparta Prague but they have scored eight goals in their last three matches on the road.

Jagiellonia are strong favourites for the win at 1.34 but Ararat-Armenia’s goal-scoring pedigree on the road has me leaning towards both sides to score.

Verdict

I’m backing a Rennes win but with OFI Crete finding the net, while Celta Vigo and Juventus to both score.

I’m also throwing my hat into the ring for a Ferencvaros win over Plzen while I predict both sides to score in a tasty clash between Jagiellonia and Ararat-Armenia.
