England vs India Predictions

England have the momentum after chasing India’s total down with more than five overs to spare. Their confidence will be high but they will be looking for a stronger start from their openers.

  • England’s Joe Root has scored 76* & 99* in his last 2 knocks.
  • England’s Harry Brook has scores of 79* & 95* in his last 4 innings.
  • England’s Jofra Archer has 10 wickets in his last 5 matches against India.
  • India’s Shubman Gill has scored 84*, 154, 80* & 31 in his last 4 matches.
  • India’s Virat Kohli has scores of 43, 75* & 65 in his last 4 innings.
  • India’s Gurnoor Brar took 2/61 & 2/67 in the first two ODIs against England.

Head-to-Head

England have won one and lost four of their last five ODIs against India. England won the last meeting in the 2nd ODI after losing the previous four ODIs in a row.

England Form

England enter the Lord’s decider with momentum after a convincing second ODI win levelled the series. Their bowlers restricted India to 233, before Joe Root’s unbeaten 99 guided the chase after England had slipped to 125/5.

Root has been England’s standout batter, top-scoring in both matches and leading the series with 175 runs. He also has a strong record at Lord’s, with 466 runs in 11 ODIs at the venue. However, England will want more from the rest of the top order, with no other batter passing 40 in the series.

Jos Buttler’s ODI form remains a concern, and England will hope he can produce a significant innings in the decider. With the ball, Jofra Archer has impressed with four wickets, while Gus Atkinson took three on his return. Adil Rashid has yet to make a major impact.

India Form

India return to London for the final match of the tour looking to recover from defeat in Cardiff and claim the ODI series. Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer scored half-centuries in the second ODI, but lacked support as India were bowled out for 235. They then reduced England to 8/2, but failed to maintain control as the hosts completed the chase in 44.1 overs.

India are aiming for another ODI series win over England, having won 2-1 on their previous tour despite losing at Lord’s, where they were bowled out for 146 chasing 247. Their batting collapse in Cardiff will be a major concern heading into the decider.

Kohli remains a key figure after making 65 in the last match. He has two centuries and six fifties in England, while Gill and Iyer add further strength to the lineup. Axar Patel’s middle-over bowling could also be important if India are to get the upper hand over England.

Team news

England may stick with the same winning combination, with the Lord’s slope likely to offer assistance to the seamers. Washington Sundar is doubtful after not fielding in Cardiff, which may open the door for Kuldeep Yadav or Arshdeep Singh. KL Rahul appears fit again and could replace Ishan Kishan.

England (possible XI): Ben Duckett, Jacob Bethell, Joe Root, Harry Brook (c), Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Gus Atkinson, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood.

India (possible XI): Shubman Gill (c), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna.

Verdict

England are tipped to win at odds of 1.68, with Joe Root, Jofra Archer, Shubman Gill and Gurnoor Brar backed to star with bat and ball.
