MI Cape Town players dominate SA20’s Team of the Tournament 2024/25

The SA20 2024/25 season saw a remarkable turnaround for MI Cape Town, who rose from the bottom to claim the championship title. This success is reflected in the Team of the Tournament, with five players from MI Cape Town making the best XI. Among these standouts is Ryan Rickelton and Dewald Brevis, who showed exceptional batting prowess. Marco Jansen led with the most wickets, and Delano Potgieter delivered a match-winning performance with both bat and ball. SA20 Team of the Tournament 2024/25


A revitalised MI Cape Town side turned the tables on their own performances in the SA20, going from finishing last in 2023 and 2024 to being champions in 2025. The improvement in their performance can be seen in our choice of Team of the Tournament, with five of the players making our best XI.

Lhuan-dre Pretorius (Paarl Royals)


What a debut season for the 18-years-old, topping the SA20 runs chart after falling three runs short of 400 runs in the series. He started with an astonishing 97 off 51 balls and continued to score at breakneck speed.

Ryan Rickelton (MI Cape Town)


Rickelton continued his great form in Tests with an incredibly consistent performance with the bat, hitting 20-plus in seven innings on the bounce, along with three half-centuries.

Joe Root (Paarl Royals)


England’s batting legend was an inspired choice to open for the Royals in his debut SA20 season, forming a superb opening partnership with Lhuan-dre Pretorius while batting at over 140 runs per 100 balls. He also picked up some valuable wickets with his gentle off-spin.

Aiden Markram (Sunrisers Eastern Cape)


Another top performance from the Sunrisers’ skipper with the bat, as well as offering some valuable off-spin.

Dewald Brevis (MI Cape Town)


Mr Adaptable up and down the order, Brevis regularly stepped up to the plate for MI Cape Town during the season. He slammed 25 sixes in the season to top the Six Hit list.

Delano Potgieter (MI Cape Town)


Potgieter offered great impact at the end of the innings, but he helped MI Cape Town kick–start their season with a devastating spell of 5/10 in their opener.

George Linde (MI Cape Town)


Linde brought his superb international form into the SA20, weighing in with valuable runs as well as bowling a tight line to peg the opposition batters down.

Marco Jansen (Sunrisers Eastern Cape)


A devastating all-rounder, able to hit out at the end of an innings or help rescue his side, but it’s his wicket-taking ability that is his greatest strength. Jansen topped the wickets list in the tournament, finishing with five wickets more than the second-placed bowlers.

Liam Dawson (Sunrisers Eastern Cape)


One of the Sunrisers’ stars of the season, he finished join second-top wicket-taker and also played a role with the bat.

Hardus Viljoen (Joburg Super Kings)


Viljoen starred for the Super Kings after two forgettable seasons, helping to drive his side into the playoffs and finishing as one of the joint second-top wicket-takers despite playing four games less than his rivals.

Kagiso Rabada (MI Cape Town)


The Proteas’ great match-winner came alive towards the end of the tournament, destroying the Sunrisers’ top order with figures of 4/25 to wreck the defending champions’ hope of a three-peat.
