Worcestershire vs Durham Predictions

Worcestershire have relied a lot on runs from skipper Jake Libby’s bat, but the home side will be looking for a far stronger performance with the ball as they hope to steal a playoff spot from Durham.
  • Worcestershire’s Jake Libby has scored 109*, 109, 109* & 105 in his last 4 knocks.
  • Worcestershire’s Henry Cullen has scores of 70, 73 & 77 in his last 5 innings.
  • Worcestershire’s Ben Allison has figures of 2/64 & 2/55 in 2 matches.
  • Durham’s Alex Lees has scored 132 & 103 in his last 5 matches.
  • Durham’s Colin Ackermann has scores of 26, 27 & 80* in his last 5 innings.
  • Durham’s Will Rhodes has taken 2/31, 3/29 & 2/30 in his last 5 matches.

Head-to-Head

Durham have won two and lost three of their last five matches in the One-Day Cup against Worcestershire.

Worcestershire Form

Worcestershire come into this match looking for a response after a disappointing defeat to Glamorgan in Cardiff. The pressure will be on captain Jake Libby, wicketkeeper Henry Cullen, Brett D’Oliveira, Isaac Mohammed and Kashif Ali to provide the bulk of the runs. Libby led from the front in the previous match, top-scoring with an excellent 105 from 114 balls, striking eight fours.

He received strong support from Cullen, who made 77 from 81 deliveries with seven boundaries. Their partnership gave Worcestershire a solid platform, but the side will need more contributions across the order if they are to bounce back.

With the ball, Worcestershire will look to Beyer Swanepoel, Ben Allison, Fateh Singh, D’Oliveira, Ben Gibbon and George O’Connor to provide regular breakthroughs.

Allison and Gibbon were the pick of the bowlers in the previous match, claiming two wickets each, while Worcestershire will need another disciplined performance from their attack.

Durham Form

Durham will arrive with confidence after securing a comfortable victory over Essex. Their batting line-up has plenty of quality, with Alex Lees, Ben Stokes, Will Rhodes, Oliver Robinson, David Bedingham, Colin Ackermann and Kasey Aldridge all capable of making important contributions.

Ackermann was the standout performer in the previous match, finishing unbeaten on 80 from 85 balls, with five fours and four sixes. Stokes added 43, while Bedingham and Aldridge chipped in with 38 and 35 respectively to give Durham useful depth through the innings.

With the ball, Durham will rely on James Minto, Luke Stephen Robinson, Duanne Olivier, Shafiqullah Ghafari, Rhodes and Aldridge to keep Worcestershire under pressure.

Rhodes was excellent in the last match, taking 2/30 from eight overs, while Minto also made an impact with three wickets from his five overs. Durham’s balance with both bat and ball should give them plenty of belief heading into this contest.

Team news

The weather reports promises sunny conditions with light winds, so we should see plenty of runs. New Road has seen first innings scores of almost 250 in the last three matches played there.

Worcestershire (possible XI): Jake Libby (c), Henry Cullen, Isaac Mohammed, Brett D’Oliveira, Rehaan Edavalath, Kashif Ali, Ben Gibbon, George O Connor, Beyers Swanepoel, Ben Allison, Fateh Singh.

Durham (possible XI): James Minton (c), Oliver Robinson, Will Rhodes, Alex Lees, David Bedingham, Ben Stokes, Colin Ackermann, Luke Stephen Robinson, Kasey Aldridge, Duanne Olivier and Shafiqullah Ghafari.

Verdict

Durham are tipped to win, with Jake Libby and Alex Lees back to be among the runs, while Will Rhodes and Ben Allison are backed to star with the ball for their sides.
