Best Bet of the Day - Durbanville

With eight races slated for Wednesday, Durbanville will offer a host of challenging decisions to back winners in what should be some tight races.

Race 1 – In The Air Tonight

Jockey: Eduan Muller | Trainer: Piet Steyn
The three-year-old showed considerably more on his latest outing when staying on strongly for second behind Bolero on 5 August. That was his best performance so far and, crucially over this sharp 1000m, he has the inside draw.

Nadia Nerina is the obvious danger after finishing third on debut before a 140-day break and has Gavin Lerena aboard for Justin Snaith. Workingclasshero finished fifth in the same race as In The Air Tonight last time and gets Richard Fourie.

Race 2 – Winter Blossom

Jockey: Callan Murray | Trainer: Lucinda Woodruff
This three-year-old filly looks one of the most attractive propositions of the afternoon. She finished second on debut behind Over My Shoulder on 5 August and should have plenty of natural improvement available. She also comes from draw three.

Sabre Wing has put together two encouraging thirds, while Mosaic World, rated 86, returns following an 88-day break and has Richard Fourie aboard.

Race 3 – Miss Arizona

Jockey: Gavin Lerena | Trainer: Justin Snaith
The market is making a very strong statement about Miss Arizona. The three-year-old filly improved from ninth on debut to second behind Merriment at her second start on 25 July and has had another 39 days to progress. Gavin Lerena takes the ride for Justin Snaith.

Love Her Madly brings more experience and has finished 5-4-5-3 in her latest four appearances, while Jack A Dandy could improve considerably on her latest sixth after a 71-day break.

Race 4 – Red Hot Rifle

Jockey: Aldo Domeyer | Trainer: Candice Bass
An intriguing maiden with several lightly raced horses capable of substantial improvement. Red Hot Rifle finished third on debut behind Ile Moris on 12 August and now moves up to 1400m from the ideal inside draw.

Time Of Our Lives actually finished second in that same race and therefore brings extremely strong collateral form, although he has the outside gate. Wreath Of Snow was green on debut when fourth and could make a sizeable second-start improvement.

Race 5 – Big City Roller

Jockey: Keagan de Melo | Trainer: Dean Kannemeyer
Big City Roller caught the eye enormously on debut, finishing strongly for second behind Ulez Camera on 12 August. The move up to 1400m looks ideal and draw four is another positive.

California Cat, originally expected to be one of his biggest rivals, is now listed as a non-runner. That strengthens Big City Roller's hand considerably. Godric Gryffindor returns after 101 days, having been gelded, with blinkers fitted; Spinnaker has also been gelded during his break.

Race 6 – Cork Bay

Jockey: Muzi Yeni | Trainer: Willem Nel
The five-year-old gelding has a formidable recent record of 1-3-2-3 and was strongly supported before finishing third behind Lyrical Gangster on 5 August. He is rated 82, has already won over the distance and looks exceptionally well placed in this field.

Marseilles has the highest rating at 88 and should be fitter after his latest run, while One More Star has been admirably consistent with form figures of 3-2-4-2-4.

Race 7 – Axis Power

Jockey: Aldo Domeyer | Trainer: Ashley Fortune
This race has changed substantially because Peace Of Mind is a non-runner. That leaves Axis Power looking particularly interesting. He has finished 3-3-3-4-2 in his last five, produced a strong second on his first appearance for Ashley Fortune and keeps the blinkers on.

Barney Mcgrew was second on his latest appearance, while three-year-old El Cohete gets plenty of weight from the older horses and has Keagan de Melo aboard.

Race 8 – Chinwag

Jockey: Callan Murray | Trainer: Michelle Rix
Another very strong favourite to finish the card. Chinwag has finished 4-3-3-3-2 in her last five outings and was second behind Golden Shimmer on 15 August. She has the inside draw, an official rating of 86 and looks ready for the step to 1600m.

Future Runway, who would have been a major danger after finishing third last time, is listed as a non-runner. That leaves the consistent Spurious, with form figures of 4-7-2-4-2, as the main threat, while Richard Fourie rides Limerance.
