Best Bet of the Day - Kenilworth

Race 2 – Le Tissier (9)

Jockey: Sifisokuhle Bungane
Trainer: Andries Steyn
A 12-horse field has just two runners with previous races under their belts. Royal Clinton has found some form with finishes of 3-5-2 in his last three runs from 11 starts and has had a 35-day break so should be fit and firing.

Le Tissier looks the strong runner after just four runs. The 4-yr-old chestnut gelding started his career by finishing 6/7 at Kenilworth in April but has turned out three third-place finishes in his last three runs, all at Kenilworth, so he looks a good one to back.

Race 3 – Saratoga Sunrise (8)

Jockey: Craig Zackey
Trainer: Dean Kannemeyer
Saratoga Sunrise has had 49 days since his last run, so he will be chomping at the bit when the gates swing open at Kenilworth. The 3-yr-old bay gelding has had just two runs, starting with 5/12 in his May debut and followed by a fourth place finish in his second race, flying from the back in the final 300m to finish right on the winner’s tail, so I see great potential for him to grab a first career win.

There’s not a lot of experience through the rest of the field, but I’ve also got my eye on Fourth Of July, who placed second in Durbanville at the end of July in his debut run.

Race 6 – Pomp It Up (4)

Jockey: Callan Murray
Trainer: Justin Snaith
Pomp It Up has four Top 3 finishes in his nine-run career, although he’s been pretty inconsistent. The 4-yr-old chestnut gelding’s career has run 3-1-7-1-5-3-6-11-4, which is a real roller-coaster ride, yet he has shown great ability to finish strong.

Pomp It Up has plenty of challengers, with Objet D’Art (2-7-1-2-1), Un Bel Di (6-5-4-1) and Berry’s Boogle (8-1-1-5) all likely to be in a tight finishing group.

Race 8 – Cedar Point (13)

Jockey: Craig Zackey
Trainer: Justin Snaith
Cedar Point also has four Top 3 finishes in nine starts, although the 4-yr-old bay gelding has been off the pace in the last two months. He ran 1-3-2 from February to April, but since then has disappointed with 7/9 and 5/9 finishes. I’m still backing him as he looks a quality runner, but he will have to bring his A-game to take the win in this field of 13 strong runners.

Bonelli comes into the race on the back of a 2-1-1-5 run, with Clark Griswold also in good form in his last two runs (1-2). Captain’s Alliance is a consistent performer but I haven’t seen enough to back him for the win (6-6-2-3-4-2).
