The Cheetahs, based in the Free State, is one of the biggest producers of Springbok rugby players. However, since been removed from the URC after COVID, the union has struggled to play regular rugby, relying heavily on the Currie Cup.

The Bloemfontein-based outfit also participates in the European Challenge Cup. They did well in the 2023/24 season but failed to get past the group stage in their last campaign.

The Cheetahs drew 20-20 against Perpignan, lost 26-10 to Cardiff before beating Zebre 22-18. Their last match, in January this year, the Cheetahs lost 68-21 to Lyon.

Georgia Form

Georgia have only played one international match in 2025, last week against Ireland. did, however, impress in 2024, showing once again that they are fast becoming a force on the world stage.

This fixture against the Cheetahs, a franchise side from South Africa, is in preparation for the Test match against the Springboks on 19 July.

Last weekend, Georgia hosted an Ireland side missing a host of first-choice players, losing the game 34-5 at home. At the end of last year, Georgia beat Tonga 22-7, lost 20-17 to Italy and 40-29 in Australia.
