Strap yourselves in for an ultra competitive clash. Both teams have underperformed this season, but when the English and Irish meet, there is no room for complacency. England’s performance against France last week gives them the edge, though. My tip is a tight England win at the Aviva Stadium.

When they met in the 2020 Autumn Nations Cup, England won 18-7 at Twickenham.

Ireland Form

Ireland go into their final 2021 Six Nations fixture in second place but with no chance of claiming the title. They have won two and lost two of their four matches.

The Irish began their campaign with two defeats, going down 21-16 in Wales with 14 men and then losing 15-13 to France at home.

Ireland bounced back to thrash Italy 48-10 in Rome before defeating Scotland 27-24 at Murrayfield last weekend. It was an impressive performance by Ireland despite nearly throwing the win away in the final 15 minutes.

Ireland Injuries & Team News

Ireland have made six changes to their side this weekend. Regular wing, Jacob Stockdale and star centre, Bundee Aki make their first appearances of the season after returning from injury.

Gary Ringrose and James Lowe miss out on selection to accommodate Aki and Stockdale. Scrumhalf Conor Murray, prop Davide Kilcoyne and loose forwards, Josh van der Flier and Jack Conan are all recalled.

England Form

England have endured a poor season by their standards. They are fourth on the Six Nations table with two wins from their four matches.

The tone was set on the opening weekend as England lost 11-6 at home to Scotland for the first time since 1983. They were then expected to see off Italy in week two, which they did with a 41-18 victory.

England then went on to lose 40-24 in Wales in what was a highly controversial match. Despite having some poor decisions go against them, England were comprehensively outplayed.

Last week saw England’s best performance in a 23-20 home win over a world class French outfit. It was a very good performance but even that was almost not enough.

Eddie Jones has made just the one change to England’s starting side. Elliot Daly will start at outside centre in place of the injured Henry Slade.
