The 2026 CAF Super Cup is set for 8 November at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, Pretoria, featuring Mamelodi Sundowns against USM Alger. Both teams have previously won the Super Cup, with Sundowns claiming the title in 2017 and USM Alger in 2023. The CAF Super Cup has produced some memorable encounters since its introduction in 1993, bringing together Africa’s top club sides in a battle for continental bragging rights.

With the 2026 edition featuring Mamelodi Sundowns and Algeria’s USM Alger, we look back at the competition’s previous winners, the countries that have dominated it and the clubs that have made history.

Al Ahly and Zamalek Lead the Way

Egyptian clubs have enjoyed remarkable success in the CAF Super Cup, with Cairo giants Al Ahly and Zamalek setting the standard. Al Ahly are the competition's most successful club with eight titles, while Zamalek have lifted the trophy five times, underlining Egypt's influence on African club football.

Other notable winners include DR Congo's TP Mazembe, who have three titles, while Tunisia's Étoile du Sahel, Nigeria's Enyimba and Morocco's Raja Casablanca have each won the competition twice. The list also features historic champions such as Ghana's Hearts of Oak, Ivory Coast's ASEC Mimosas and South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns.

North African Teams Dominate

One of the biggest trends in CAF Super Cup history is the dominance of North African football, particularly clubs from Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria. Their repeated appearances in finals and success in lifting the trophy highlight the region's consistency and strength in continental competitions.

However, clubs from other parts of Africa have also enjoyed their moments, with TP Mazembe representing Central Africa, Enyimba and Hearts of Oak bringing success to West Africa, and Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns flying the flag for South Africa.
