Two Wins in Ten – Stellies in Relegation Danger


Stellenbosch have won just two of their last ten matches and are two points above the relegation zone. They were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup and continental action this month.

Stellenbosch beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 at home in the Nedbank Cup. After losing 3-0 at Otoho d’Oyo and drawing 0-0 at home to Singida Black Stars, they CAF journey came to a premature end. 

Last midweek, they could only draw 1-1 at home to Magesi. On Saturday, Stellies lost 1-0 to Golden Arrows in the Nedbank Cup after being denied a stonewall penalty.

Kaizer Chiefs (4-2-3-1): Petersen; Monyane, Kwinika, Miguel, McCarthy; Maboe, Ndlovu; Lilepo, Shabalala, Mmodi; Mayo.

Chiefs’ co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalili Ben Youssef have defenders Inacio Miguel and Aden McCarthy back for this match. Rushwin Dortley remains out injured. 

Thabo Cele is nearing a return in the engine room. Khanyisa Mayo is set to get the nod up front over other options. 

Stellenbosch (3-4-3): Stephens; Enyinnaya, Lebusa, Tiwani; Jooste, Jabaar, Mthiyane, Mdaka; Titus, Cupido, Phili.

Coach Gavin Hunt is without striker Wonderboy Makhubu due to suspension. Fellow forward Tshegofatso Mabasa is an injury doubt. 

Veteran defender Mosa Lebusa needs a late fitness test, whilst defender Olisa Ndah is waiting on a work permit. Key defender Thabo Maloisane is suspended.
