Maritzburg United Form & News

Maritzburg United were defeated in their first match back after the lockdown break. They lost 3-2 to Black Leopards. After going 2-0 down, United came back to 2-2 through goals from Keagan Buchanan and Mxolisi Kunene, but Leopards struck in the second half to claim all three points.

Before the lockdown forced football to take a break, Maritzburg United emerged victorious from four league games in a row, earning head coach Eric Tinkler the Coach of the Month awards for February and March.

Maritzburg United have a doubt over the fitness of Mxolisi Kunene at left back for this game. Richard Ofori should continue in goal have suffered a family bereavement.

Mamelodi Sundowns were beaten in their last fixture 3-2 by Cape Town City. Having gone 2-0 down, Sundowns pulled one back before half-time. However, they went 3-1 down in the second period before Keletso Makgalwa hit a consolation goal.

Since the return of football, Sundowns have gone three league matches without a victory, having also drawn 0-0 with Orlando Pirates and 1-1 with Highlands Park.

Mamelodi Sundowns are expected to be missing two right backs in Thapelo Morena and Anele Ngcongca for this game. Mauricio Affonso is missing up front as he remains stuck in Uruguay after the lockdown. In defence, both Mosa Lebusa and Ricardo Nascimento missed the last game but should be fit to return.
