Stellenbosch vs AmaZulu Predictions

On recent form, Stellies look in top shape. They host an AmaZulu side who struggle on the road. I’m backing the hosts to continue their remarkable run of results.

Stellies won 1-0 away at Usuthu when the sides met in November.

Stellenbosch Form & Team News

Stellies ended 2023 on an 11-match unbeaten run with league wins in a row. They also lifted the Carling Knockout Cup trophy.

A 3-0 victory over Cape Town Spurs preceded a 3-0 win at Richards Bay in the Cup semi-final. They beat Cape Town City 1-0 at home in the PSL and then lifted the Cup on penalties after a 1-1 draw after extra time.

Their final match before the mid-season break saw a 3-2 win at Orlando Pirates. They trailed 2-0 after 68 minutes but staged an incredible comeback.

Stellenbosch have released winger Kgaogelo Sekgota. The club have rejected bids from Saudi Arabia for top striker Iqraam Rayners.

Key playmaker Jayden Adams is unlikely to be involved. He was in action for Bafana Bafana in the AFCON on Saturday.

Stellenbosch Predicted Lineup

Stephens; Van Rooyen, Maloisane, Toure, Basadien; Palace, Nduli; Titus, De Jong, Oura; Rayners.

AmaZulu Form & Team News

AmaZulu sit eighth in the PSL table with the league’s second-best defensive record. Their final six fixtures in 2023 were all at home with three losses followed by seven points (WDW).

After a 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns, they eked out a 1-0 win over Sekhukhune United. A 1-1 draw vs Cape Town Spurs saw them outplayed in stretches.

They ended the calendar year with a resounding 3-0 win over Royal AM. They led 3-0 after 32 minutes and cruised to the three points.

AmaZulu signed left back Sifiso Ngobeni in the transfer window from Mamelodi Sundowns. Veteran winger Augustine Mulenga has returned to the club.

Goalkeeper Veli Mothwa may miss out after playing in the AFCON third-place playoff on Saturday.

AmaZulu Predicted Lineup

Mzimela; Sikhakhane, Gumede, Mphahlele, Fielies, Hanamub; Mbanjwa, Motshwari, Ngema; Kwem, Mulenga.

Verdict

I'm backing a home victory in this match. Stellenbosch are backed for clean sheet too.
