Arsenal vs Sporting CP Predictions - Low scoring Champions League clash expected
Arsenal currently leads Sporting by one goal after their first leg match, but their recent form has been less than stellar. Having lost three of their last four matches, Arsenal's performance has been a point of concern. Despite these challenges, Arsenal’s defense remains robust, which could make it difficult for Sporting to score in the upcoming match. Sporting, who recently registered multiple victories leading up to the Champions League clash, narrowly lost 1-0 but remain undeterred with hopes in the Liga Portugal. The game promises to be a closely contested clash likely leading to under 2.5 goals.
- Arsenal leads Sporting 1-0 but struggles with recent form.
- Despite a poor run, Arsenal's defense remains strong.
- A low-scoring clash with under 2.5 goals is predicted.

Arsenal are in poor form but do have a slender one-goal lead after the first leg. Despite their form, the Gunners are solid at the back, which will make life difficult for Sporting. I am backing under 2.5 goals.
Head to Head
These two sides have met eight times with Arsenal winning four and four games ending in draws. Sporting have never beaten the Gunners.
Arsenal Form
Arsenal’s season is in danger of imploding after losing three of their last four games. The poor run of form started with a 2-0 loss against Manchester City in the League Cup final.
The Gunners were then knocked out of the FA Cup after a 2-1 defeat at Championship side Southampton. They had 23-8 shots and 7-4 on target but were ineffective up front.
Mikel Arteta’s side were unconvincing in their Champions League quarter-final clash at Sporting CP last week. David Raya made two great saves before Kai Havertz’s added time goal secured a 1-0 victory.
Arsenal returned to the Premier League with a 2-1 home defeat to Bournemouth. Viktor Gyokeres equalised in the first half but once again they couldn’t take their chances, ending with 2.32-1.19 xG.
Arteta spoke after the match: “Disappointing. It's a big punch in the face and it's about how we react now. They are a team who haven't lost for 11 games for a reason, they did a lot right.
“We were far from efficient. The first chance they had to attack the box, it's a deflection, a bad defending action and it's a goal. That's something we have to recover from. The second half you expect a different game. We did a lot of strange things today.”
Sporting Form
Sporting won three straight games before meeting Arsenal in the Champions League last week. They scored 13 goals in that run including a 5-0 extra time win over Bodo/Glimt in the round of 16 second leg.
Maxi Araújo hit the bar in the opening minutes against the Gunners and Luis Suárez went close in the second half. The game appeared to be heading to a 0-0 draw before they conceded in added time and lost 1-0.
The Lions won 1-0 at Estrela da Amadora on Saturday to keep their narrow title hopes alive in Liga Portugal. Daniel Bragança got the start and scored the winning goal, his fifth this season.
Rui Borges was pleased with the victory: “It was a difficult game against a team that defended very well in the first half. We controlled the game, but didn't create many clear-cut chances.
“In the first half, we were slow with possession and lacked inspiration. Above all, we played a very competitive game. It was also a difficult day, with wind and cold. We knew it was important to win today. I was happy with what the team gave, despite our lack of inspiration.”
