France vs Switzerland Preview & Tips

Switzerland could frustrate France with a defensive tactical setup. France have already struggled to score against defensive sides so we're backing this match to see an extra 30 minutes.

  • France are undefeated in their last 10 matches (all competitions).
  • France have drawn 3 of their last 4 matches (European Championship).
  • France have drawn 4 of their last 5 matches against Switzerland (all competitions).
  • Switzerland have seen under 2.5 goals in their last 4 matches against France (all competitions).
  • Switzerland are undefeated in 9 of their last 10 matches (all competitions).
  • Switzerland have drawn 4 of their last 6 matches (European Championship).

Head to Head

France have a 16-12 advantage against Switzerland with 10 draws in 38 matches.

France Form

France are undefeated in their last 10 matches. They won four straight games heading into the European Championship.

Les Bleus opened their Euro 2020 campaign with a 1-0 win against Germany, going ahead through an own goal.

France were held to a 1-1 draw against Hungary in Budapest. Antoine Griezmann equalised in the 66th minute but they couldn’t find a winner against a disciplined opponent.

Didier Deschamps’ side drew 2-2 against Portugal in their final group game, conceding two penalties. Karim Benzema equalised from the penalty spot and converted a Paul Pogba through ball.

France Team News

Goalkeepers: Hugo Lloris (Captain), Steve Mandanda, Mike Maignan
Defenders: Benjamin Pavard, Presnel Kimpembe, Raphaël Varane, Clément Lenglet, Kurt Zouma, Lucas Digne, Lucas Hernandez, Léo Dubois, Jules Koundé
Midfielders: Paul Pogba, Thomas Lemar, Corentin Tolisso, N'Golo Kanté, Adrien Rabiot, Moussa Sissoko
Forwards: Antoine Griezmann, Olivier Giroud, Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé, Karim Benzema, Kingsley Coman, Wissam Ben Yedder, Marcus Thuram

Lucas Digne is injured and Lucas Hernandez is doubtful which means Leo Dubois should start at left-back.

Corentin Tolisso is likely to make way for Adrien Rabiot in midfield and Benjamin Pavard should replace Jules Kounde at right-back.

Ousmane Dembele suffered a knee injury against Hungary and is out for the rest of the tournament.

Switzerland Form

Switzerland are undefeated in nine of their last 10 matches and have won seven of their last nine games.

Vladimir Petković’s side drew 1-1 against Wales in their opening match at Euro 2020. They dominated the game with 64% possession and 18-9 shots.

The Swiss fell to a 3-0 defeat against Italy in a closer match than the score suggests.

Switzerland beat Turkey 3-1 in their final group game. Steven Zuber registered three assists, the first for Haris Seferovic and the next two for Xherdan Shaqiri.

Verdict

Switzerland should prove tough to beat with their disciplined approach. France could be in for a tough match and might have to do it the hard way in extra time.
