San Francisco Unicorns have made a difficult start to their campaign after suffering a three-wicket defeat against Guyana Amazon Warriors. They were unable to fully take advantage of key moments with either bat or ball and captain Hassan Khan will be looking for a sharper all-round performance in this match.

Tim Robinson looked in good touch in the previous game, and the Unicorns will need him to provide a solid start alongside Connor Esterhuizen. The middle order struggled last time out, although Hammad Azam impressed with a top score of 61. He will be important again alongside Sanjay Krishnamurthi and Oliver Peake, while Hassan Khan and Fabian Allen give the side powerful striking options later in the innings.

The bowling unit also needs to improve after failing to keep sustained pressure on the Guyana batters. Ghulam Mudassar and Fabian Allen must be more disciplined and look for early breakthroughs. Hassan Khan was one of the positives, taking two wickets while going at 6.20, and will be key through the middle overs with Peter Siddle. Callum Stow and Krishnamurthi will also need to contribute in supporting roles.

Perth Scorchers also come into this match looking for a response after a 16-run defeat to Lahore Qalandars. Ashton Turner’s side struggled with the ball and then failed to build enough meaningful partnerships with the bat. A more complete performance will be needed if they are to regain momentum.

Andre Fletcher and D’Arcy Short are both capable stroke-makers and Perth will want a strong platform from them at the top. Usman Khan was one of the few positives in the last game, scoring 41, and he will be expected to play another key role in the middle order alongside Joel Curtis and Turner. Dian Forrester, Ashton Agar and Akeal Hosein add useful lower-middle-order depth.

The bowling attack will also be under pressure to respond. Jhye Richardson has averaged 19.57 over the last 12 months and will be expected to strike early with Akeal Hosein. Ashton Agar and Brody Couch must control the middle overs, while Sufyan Moqim and Short will be needed in supporting roles.
