Pakistan are predicted to defeat Sri Lanka again and take a 2-0 lead in the T20I series, following a strong performance in the previous match. Pakistan’s form is backed by standout performances from players like Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat, while their bowlers have restricted Sri Lanka effectively. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have struggled in recent games and must address batting weaknesses. The article highlights players in top form for both sides and suggests that Pakistan hold the advantage going into the next match.

Head-to-Head

Pakistan have won three and lost one of their last four T20Is against Sri Lanka.

Pakistan Form

Pakistan have lost just one of their last five T20Is, that defeat coming against favourites India in the Asian Games final.

Quickie Mohammad Imran enjoyed a great T20I debut in the 1st T20I, opening the bowling and picking up two top five Sri Lankan scalps for just 21 runs (econ 5.25). Naseem Shah (3/36) also starred with the ball and knocked over both Sri Lanka openers as the visitors were restricted to a score of 182/8.

Pakistan’s chase got off to a great start thanks to runs from Sahibzada Farhan (89), Fakhar Zaman (21) and Maaz Sadaqat (50) as they raced to 147/2 in the 15th over. They lost some quick wickets but got over the line for the loss of six wickets with seven balls in hand.

Sri Lanka Form

Sri Lanka are struggling for form, losing three of their last four completed T20Is. They have lost to strong sides in England, India and Pakistan, while their recent win was by 63 runs against Bangladesh in the Asian Games third-place playoff.

Lahiru Udara came into the side and cracked 91 off 55 balls at the top of the order for Sri Lanka. He hit 11 fours and a six but with only Kamindu Mendis (23) reaching 20 Sri Lanka struggled to post 182/8 off their 20 overs.

The Sri Lankans battled to make inroads into the Pakistan order as the hosts moved to 146/1 in the 14th over. Eshan Malinga (2/33) and Maheesh Theekshana (2/36) staged a late fight back but they couldn’t deny Pakistan their four-wicket win.

Team News

Sri Lanka will be looking to urgently address their batting frailties after only Lahiru Udara provided the Pakistan attack any resistance in the 1st T20I.

Pakistan (possible XI): Sahibzada Farhan (c), Fakhar Zaman, Khawaja Nafay, Maaz Sadaqat, Hasan Nawaz, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, Razaullah, Naseem Shah, Abrar Ahmed, Mohammad Imran.

Sri Lanka (possible XI): Kusal Mendis (c), Kamil Mishara, Lahiru Udara, Sahan Arachchige, Kamindu Mendis, Dasun Shanaka, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Eshan Malinga, Dunith Wellalage, Nuwan Thushara.

Verdict

Pakistan are tipped to beat Sri Lanka back-to-back to take a 2-0 series lead. Maaz Sadaqat and Kusal Mendis have both been in great form with the bat and are two players worth backing.

Naseem Shah and Eshan Malinga have again been in the wickets and are good candidates to put your confidence in.
