South Africa heads into the T20I final as strong favourites against Zimbabwe after commanding performances in their last three matches. Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Connor Esterhuizen have been powerful with the bat, while Bjorn Fortuin shines among bowlers. Zimbabwe gained momentum with a recent win over Namibia thanks to Innocent Kaia and Brad Evans, but face a tall order. Both sides are expected to field unchanged XIs. Head-to-Head

South Africa have won their last five T20Is against Zimbabwe.

South Africa Form

South Africa beat Zimbabwe in back-to-back matches and followed that up with an 11-run win over Namibia to knock the hosts out of the tournament.

Lhuan-dre Pretorius (101 off 53) and Connor Esterhuizen (88 off 40) each hit eight sixes in an opening stand of 156 off 11.3 overs. The Proteas ended their 20 overs on 228/4.

Namibia got off to a great start and had reached 119 without loss in the 11th over before the Proteas picked up their first wicket. On a good track the bowlers all went for runs, with Nqobani Mokoena following on figures of 4/40 and 1/39 in his previous two matches by taking 2/43 as Namibia ended just 11 runs short of victory for the loss of just three wickets.

Zimbabwe Form

Zimbabwe bounced back from two defeats in three matches to beat Namibia by five wickets in their last group match to put themselves in contention for a place in the final.

Zimbabwe’s bowlers had Namibia in trouble at 25/3 in the sixth over but they recovered to reach 156/6 off their 20 overs. Brad Evans (2/29) and Kundai Matigimu (2/31) enjoyed the most success with the ball.

Innocent Kaia played a match-winning innings of 72 off 42 balls with eight fours and three sixes as Zimbabwe raced to a five-wicket win with 11 balls in hand. Skipper Sikandar Raza (29) and Brian Bennett (22) gave Kaia good support.

Team news

Both teams have enjoyed good wins in their last match and are unlikely to shuffle their order ahead of the final on Sunday.

South Africa (possible XI): Connor Esterhuizen, Bjorn Fortuin (c) Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Jordan Hermann, Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi, Rubin Hermann, Eathan Bosch, Duan Jansen, Prenelan Subrayen, Kwena Maphaka.

Verdict

South Africa are overwhelming favourites to win. Lhuan-dre Pretorius’ back-to-back scores of 94-plus make him a strong pick to top score for the Proteas, while Bjorn Fortuin, Innocent Kaia and Brad Evans are also backed to star with bat and ball.
