West Indies vs Sri Lanka Predictions

The series is level at 1-1, although with Sri Lanka winning the ODI series they have the momentum coming into the series decider.

  • West Indies’ Shai Hope has scored 32, 56 & 65* in his last 4 knocks.
  • West Indies’ Rovman Powell has scored 29-plus in 3 of his last 4 matches.
  • West Indies’ Shamar Joseph has taken 2/42, 3/29 & 3/32 in his last 3 T20Is.
  • Sri Lanka’s Kamil Mishara scored 61 off 40 balls against the West Indies.
  • Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis has scored 72, 36 & 31 in his last 3 innings.
  • Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga has picked up 9 wickets in his last 4 matches.

Head-to-Head

West Indies have won two and lost three of their last five T20Is against Sri Lanka, including defeats in three of the last four clashes.

West Indies Form

The West Indies haven’t been in great form as a unit, although they have had plenty of important individual contributions. They will push hard to take the win to avoid losing both whiteball series at home to Sri Lanka.

Shai Hope continues to score consistently, while Rovman Powell has scores of 54, 29 and 43 in his last four matches. Brandon King has just two scores over 22 in his last nine whiteball matches and will be looking to post a good score to get his side off to a strong start to their innings.

Matthew Forde (2/38) and Shamar Joseph (3/32) were the best West Indies bowlers in the 2nd T20I. Forde took 2/44 in the ODI defeat to Sri Lanka while Joseph picked up 3/29.

Sri Lanka Form

Sri Lanka broke their five-match losing streak in T20Is with an excellent 37-run win in Kingston in the 2nd T20I to level the series at 1-1 ahead of Monday’s decider at the same venue.

Kamil Mishara has scored 71, 83, 174 and 61* in his last five innings. Dasun Shanaka’s 58 in the 2nd T20I ensured Sri Lanka had enough runs on the board to put the West Indies under pressure. Shanaka has scored 29, 22 and 58 in his last five knocks.

Dunith Wellalage (2/28) took the key early wicket of Shai Hope in the 2nd T20I, but the stars of the innings with the ball were Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera, both picking up three-fors. Hasaranga has figures of 3/25, 2/32 and 3/38 in his last four matches, while Chameera has taken 4/67 and 3/9 in his last three matches.

Team news

Speaking to the press after the match, Sri Lanka skipper Kusal Mendis was pleased with his side’s batting performance in the powerplay and highlighted Dasun Shanaka’s late knock of 58 as being key to the win.

“Dasun played his normal game. He wanted to score runs under pressure. He got a couple of sixes early. We considered Kamil since he's a left-hander. He got the job done. Wellalage bowled really well in the powerplay. We are a very good team. We've played well in the last two games. If we play our normal game, we can win the series decider," said Mendis.

"I believe the execution wasn't as good as it could be. There are always areas to improve. We leaked a few runs but the batters should put their hands up a little more. Just need to find ways to be a lot more consistent. We've got a lot of experience," added West Indies skipper Shai Hope.
