Skipper Zip is building on some strong performances to take Race 1.
Drumnadrochit should be fresh from a big break to take Race 6.
I’m backing Next Of Kin to bounce back from a bad run to take Race 8.

Race 1 – Skipper Zip (5)

Jockey: S Veale

Trainer: Stuart Ferrie

Skipper Zip had a slow start to his career, but the 4-yr-old bay gelding bounced back from his three first runs of 8-7-10 to come in 4-2 in his last two runs. I like the look of his staying power and finishing against a field with just one other horse with a Top 3 finish in their last five runs.

Skipper Zip’s only strong competitor looks to be Owner Of Creation, who ran 5-2-2-2-7 coming into this race, but the 5-yr-old bay gelding has yet to win in 31 starts.

Race 3 – Noctambulist (6)

Jockey: Dezahn Louw

Trainer: Nathan Kotzen

Noctambulist looks to be a bit of an enigma, debuting in June by finishing last at Greyville. He followed that up coming in last in a field of 16 at the end of June. His last race saw him fly into the lead on the 30-second mark and ride hard through to the straight when Takethegreenlight slipped ahead of him.

That performance has me impressed so I’m backing him to build on that last run. He has some stiff competition in Crimson Typhoon (3.75) and Fire Force (3.00), both of whom finished second in their last run but neither have shown the sort of consistency that makes them worth backing.

Race 6 – Drumnadrochit (2)

Jockey: S Veale

Trainer: Mike/mathe Kock

Drumnadrochit won two of his first three races, although there was an eighth place finish between the two runs. A 51-day break followed, after which he ran 7-7 but came back in his last race with a better run, hitting fourth place out of eight runners at Turffontein in April.

The 4-yr-old bay gelding has had a 124-day break since then and I’m backing him to hit the ground running when the gates open. He has a tough field to contend with, but I like his legs. The 11-horse field includes recent winners in Miss Twinkle (8.00), Drumnadrochit (5.00), Red Tafferty (10.00), Happy Fortune (10.00), Warrior Royale (8.50), Gorgeous Girl (13.00), Warning Sound (10.00) and Sonic Jet (9.50).

Race 8 – Next Of Kin (4)

Jockey: S Veale

Trainer: Mike/mathe Kock

Next Of Kin has seven Top 3 places in his 14 career starts. The 4-yr-old bay gelding enjoyed a strong run of 5-4-3-2-2-2 in the first part of 2026 but his last two runs saw him struggle, finishing 8-6.

There are some strong runners in the field, including Zagreb (2-5-3-1), War Emperor (2-2-2-1-7) and Blue Steel (2-1-5-1-2), but I’m keeping the faith with Next Of Kin.
