English Premier League Predictions - 19 April 2026, Matchday 33

Aston Villa vs Sunderland

Villa have broken a nasty little League losing streak with a win and a draw against two relegation strugglers. Their excellent season is showing cracks, and against a Sunderland side that has won 3 of their last 4 League games I think they will struggle.

At home Villa have just a 50% win record over their last 10 matches, but that’s better than what Sunderland can offer on the road. The Black Cats are undefeated in their last 3 matches on the road, but prior to that they lost 5 and drew 3 of their last 8 away from home.

A draw looks the most likely result, but are Villa playing well enough to win? Neither side is scoring heavily, so I’m backing a low-scoring tussle.

Everton vs Liverpool

Everton are up in 8th place with a sniff of Europe and are playing like a team with nothing to lose after a happy and successful season. They’re raked in 10 points in their last 5 matches while Liverpool have just 4 points in 5 matches after a hat-trick of losses.

Liverpool have been goalless in 3 of their last 4 matches and have netted just 6 times in their last 8 matches, losing 5 of those clashes. Everton have lost just 3 times in 10, going down 2-0 away to Arsenal and 1-0 at home to Man United, so they have been competitive in the closing stages of the season.

On the road Liverpool have lost 5 of 6, so they should be vulnerable in this high-pressure Merseyside derby. Everton have struggled at home, winning just 3 of their last 10 League matches. They have found form recently though, winning their last two matches 2-0 (vs Burnley) and 3-0 (vs Chelsea), so I’m going with form to back Everton for a tight, low-scoring win.

Notts Forest vs Burnley

Depressing times for Burnley who are 12 points below the relegation safety mark, and with just 6 matches to play their fate seems sealed. Worse news is that they are playing like a condemned team, losing 5 of their last 7 matches and last tasting a win in early February.

Forest have just beaten Porto to clinch a Europa League semi-final spot, so they will be full of confidence, despite sitting just 3 points above the relegation zone. Forest are peaking at the right time and are undefeated in their last 6 matches, winning 3 times and conceding just 3 goals.

This should be a strong win for Forest but the odds look good for a win to nil, which looks like a wise call.

Man City vs Arsenal

City have a game in hand over Arsenal and are 6 point behind the log-leaders. A home win followed by victory over Crystal Palace will put the teams level on points and most likely goal difference as well.

Arsenal had thoughts of the quadruple a fortnight ago and now they are watching as a Premier League and Champions League double becomes ever more challenging.

City have lost just 4 of their last 20 matches, two of which were against a powerful Real Madrid side. They are peaking at the right time, winning their last three matches by a combined score of 9-0… and against quality teams in the shape of Arsenal (League Cup final), Liverpool and Chelsea.

Arsenal have lost 3 of their last 5 matches, scraping in just 3 goals in that stretch. Considering how strong they have been this season you expect them to click back into gear at any moment, but given the form of both teams over the last fortnight this can only be a Man City win.

I’m going to back a match with 3 goals or more. City look set to open the floodgates and swamp an Arsenal side who must be filled with fears over their dwindling title hopes. The home side could well keep a clean sheet, but Arsenal are sure to fight hard so the best bet looks to be a pile of goals.

Verdict

Goals to be scarce between Aston Villa and Sunderland. Wins for Everton, Notts Forest and Man City.
