Nigeria vs Rwanda Predictions - Super Eagles to enhance World Cup qualification chances

Nigeria face Rwanda in a high-stakes World Cup qualifier. After winning 2-0 away in March, Nigeria will look to repeat their success at home, where victory could see them reach second in Group C. They've drawn most recent games and desperately need points to keep World Cup qualification hopes alive. Rwanda, currently second, are under pressure with Nigeria only one point behind. A draw or better for Rwanda keeps them in contention, while a loss makes their path difficult. Expect a tense clash with both teams focused on results.

Nigeria vs Rwanda Predictions

Nigeria need this result and in front of their home fans, I am backing them to get it. After beating Rwanda 2-0 away, they will be confident of getting a result, although they’ve drawn plenty games of late. A win to nil is tipped.

  • Nigeria have drawn 5 of their last 6 matches (excluding CHAN).
  • Rwanda have lost 2 of their last 3 matches to nil.

Head to Head

Nigeria won 2-0 in Rwanda in March this year.

Nigeria Form

Nigeria are under huge pressure and simply must take three points from this home fixture. After six games, they are fourth on the table with one win, four draws and a defeat.

While South Africa lead the table on 13 points, second place is still a realistic target for Nigeria. They are just one point off Benin and Rwanda, which means a win here will take them up at least into third, maybe second.

The Super Eagles were recently part of the CHAN tournament but only used local players, so we won’t take those results into consideration. Their last two qualifiers saw them beat Rwanda 2-0 away and draw 1-1 at home to Zimbabwe.

Rwanda Form

Rwanda are second in Group C on eight points, five points off South Africa at the top. However, more concerning will be what is going on behind them as Benin are level on points and Nigeria are just a point off.

With two wins, two draws and two defeats, Rwanda desperately need to get at least a point from this game. Defeat in Nigeria will make it tough for them to reclaim second, although far from impossible.

In March during their two World Cup qualifiers, Rwanda lost ground to South Africa after losing at home 2-0 to Nigeria and only drawing 1-1 against Lesotho. They really needed a win in that latter game to give themselves a buffer.

Verdict

Nigeria are backed to win this game 2-0.
