Norway vs England Preview - England and Kane backed in World Cup quarter-final

Norway and England are set for a thrilling World Cup quarter-final, each bringing impressive attacking firepower but showing vulnerability at the back. Norway have seen BTTS in every match and England have conceded regularly despite remaining undefeated. With Harry Kane in top form and both teams favouring high-scoring games, experts back both teams to score (BTTS), over 2.5 goals, and Kane as a likely scorer. England’s recent injuries may impact their line-up, but spectators can expect an open, goal-filled contest.

  • Both teams boast strong attacks but weak defences; expect goals.
  • BTTS & over 2.5 goals backed; Kane predicted to score.
  • England remain unbeaten; Norway high scorers with BTTS in every game.

Norway vs England Predicitons

Norway have plenty of attacking prowess but they have proven very vulnerable at the back while England, normally very solid, have also conceded a fair share at the World Cup. I am backing BTTS considering the attacking talent on both sides.

  • Norway have seen BTTS in their last 7 matches.
  • England have seen over 2.5 goals in their last 2 games.
  • England’s Harry Kane has scored 13 goals in his last 9 matches for club and country.

Head to Head

England have won seven of their 12 matches against Norway, losing two along with three draws.

Norway Form

Norway are the third-highest scorers at the 2026 World Cup, with 14 goals in five matches. The Scandinavian side have also seen BTTS in every World Cup match.

The Vikings beat Iraq 4-1 and Senegal 3-2 in the group stage before losing 4-1 to France. They hit back with a round of 32 triumph over the Ivory Coast and had 1.91 XG.

Stale Solbakken’s side eliminated Brazil in the round of 16 after a 2-1 victory. Norway allowed 2.62 XG and Erling Haaland scored twice in the final 10 minutes.

England Form

England are undefeated at the 2026 World Cup, winning four and drawing once. The Three Lions have seen 16 total goals in five games and conceded five.

Thomas Tuchel’s side started their World Cup campaign with a 4-2 victory over Croatia, where Harry Kane scored twice. England then drew 0-0 with Ghana and beat Panama 2-0 to finish top of Group L.

The European outfit came back from a goal down to beat DR Congo 2-1 in the round of 32. Harry Kane scored twice again in the final 20 minutes.

The Three Lions extended their winning run to three games after a 3-2 win against Mexico on Monday. Jude Bellingham scored twice and Harry Kane got on the scoresheet as England had 1.61-1.88 XG.

Norway vs England Predicted Starting Lineups & News

Norway (4-3-3): Orjan Nyland; Julian Ryerson, Kristoffer Ajer, Torbjorn Heggem, Leo Ostigard; Sander Berge, Martin Odegaard, Patrick Berg; Alexander Sorloth, Erling Haaland, Antonio Nusa

David Moller Wolfe is an injury doubt against England. The full-back came off with an injury late in the Brazil game and could miss out.

England (4-2-3-1): Jordan Pickford; Reece James, Ezri Konsa, Marc Guehi, Nico O’Reilly; Elliot Anderson, Declan Rice; Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham, Anthony Gordon; Harry Kane

Reece James has missed the last four games due to a hamstring injury. The right back is expected to return against Norway.

Defender Jarell Quansah was sent off against Mexico and is suspended.

Midfielder Jordan Henderson is ruled out for the rest of the 2026 World Cup with a broken wrist.

Thomas Tuchel provided a post-match update on Henderson and said, "Mixed feelings also because I'm exhausted of course and emotional but also sad because Jordan got injured... he's at the moment in the hospital. So it's a quite serious injury."

Verdict

Norway and England have exceptional attacking quality and know how to score goals. Neither side defends well and a high-scoring World Cup quarter-final with Kane goals are anticipated.
