Over the last 20 years Senegal has been one of the top performing African sides, both on the continent of Africa and globally. Unfortunately their performances have not always resulted in World Cup success.
That being said, Senegal are one of only three African sides to have reached the World Cup quarter-final. That took place in 2002 when the tournament was held in South Korea and Japan.
While that was a major success for Senegal and indeed the entire African continent, the Senegalese failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in 2006, 2010 and 2014. They returned in 2018 but failed to progress from the group.
Senegal have however qualified for 2022 and they should fancy their chances of progression. In a group with Netherlands, Ecuador and hosts Qatar, Senegal should be looking at two victories at the bare minimum.
