  • Bangladesh are in great form after a strong Test series win over Pakistan.
  • Australia’s squad has been beefed up by the return of their IPL stars.
  • Australia’s players have been playing in sub-continent conditions for the last few months which should negate Bangladesh’s home-ground advantage.

Bangladesh vs Australia Predictions

With home ground advantage and coming on the back of a 2-0 Test series win over Pakistan, Bangladesh are a side in form and should give Australia a tough battle. Australia’s squad is strengthened by the inclusion of some of the stars of the recent IPL which makes them favourites for the series.

  • Bangladesh’s Towhid Hridoy has scored 70-plus in his last 5 knocks.
  • Bangladesh’s Nahid Rana has taken 5/40, 3/60, 2/71 and 4/71 in his last 4 innings.
  • Australia’s Mitchell Marsh has scored 90-plus in 3 of his last 4 innings.
  • Australia’s Cooper Connolly scored 30-plus in 5 of his last 10 knocks.
  • Australia’s Matthew Kuhnemann took 3/38 in their last ODI against Pakistan.

Head-to-Head

Australia have won three of their last five ODIs against Bangladesh. The other two matches were rained-out.

Bangladesh Form

Bangladesh have won three of their last four ODI, including back-to-back wins over New Zealand to clinch their recent ODI series 2-1.

Litton Das has been in superb form with the bat in all formats, while Towhid Hridoy has been in Bradmanesque form in domestic List A cricket, racking up scores of 71*, 86, 101 and 101* in his last four innings. Najmul Hossain Shanto has also been in the runs with scores of 108*, 37 and 30 in his last three innings.

Nahid Rana took 4/71 in his last match on the back of figures of 5/40, 3/60 and 2/71 in the two-match series win over Pakistan. Rishad Hossain has figures of 2/39, 3/13 and 2/30 in his last five matches.

Australia Form

Australia have lost three of their last four ODIs, losing their last series 2-1 to Pakistan, but they have a strong group of players selected for the tour to Bangladesh so they are the clear favourites.

Mitchell Marsh has been in brilliant form in the recent IPL, with scores of 44, 111, 90 and 96 in his last five knocks. Cooper Connolly hit 87, 30, 107*, 38, 21 and 37 in his last 10 knocks in the IPL and Cameron Green scored 53 in the 2nd ODI against Pakistan.

Nathan Ellis picked up 2/45 and 4/33 in the three-match series against Pakistan and Matthew Kuhnemann returned figures of 1/29, 1/41 and 3/38 in the three-match series.

Team news

Bangladesh come into the three-match ODI series on the back of a 2-0 Test series victory over Pakistan.

"You have to be mindful of making that mindset change between the three formats, whatever time you get. I think if you come with the right mindset, you can cover that distance between formats," said Bangladesh’s keeper-batter star Litton Das, who scored 33, 126 and 69 in his four innings in the Test series.

"Australia is definitely a big name. They are among the top teams in world cricket. It will be challenging because they have played recently in Pakistan. Conditions are similar between Pakistan and Bangladesh, so they have played tough cricket. They will have a fair idea of conditions,” said Das in an interview with Cricinfo.

"Australia has more chance of being consistent in ODIs than us, since they have just played this format. Of course, we are playing in our home ground where we have mostly done well."

Middle-order batter Mosaddek Hossain has been recalled to the Bangladesh squad along with Nurul Hasan, with Mahidul Islam and Afif Hossain dropping out of the squad for the first two ODIs.

Australia have not included Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc in their touring squad in order to manage their workload over the next few months.

Bangladesh squad: Mehidy Hasan Miraz (c), Soumya Sarkar, Saif Hassan, Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tawhid Hridoy, Litton Das, Mosaddek Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Nahid Rana.

Australia squad: Mitchell Marsh (c), Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Matthew Renshaw, Tanveer Sangha, Liam Scott, Adam Zampa.
