Two in-form sides square up in the Qualifier, with the Sixers buoyed by the form of Steve Smith but a touch short of runs from the rest of the top order and having lost Sam Curran on international duty. The Scorchers have a power-packed top six so I’m backing them for the win.

Finn Allen has hit top form at the perfect time, scoring 38, 101 and 69 in his last three innings. He’s second on the runs list with 381 runs at a strike-rate of 189.55. The Scorchers' success this season owes much to the presence of Aaron Hardie (317 runs, S/R 152.40) and Mitchell Marsh (311 runs, SR 140.09) along with Allen in the Big Bash’s top six run scorers.

Cooper Connolly is their top bowler with 13 wickets, including figures of 2/23 and 2/18 in the Scorchers’ last two matches. Joel Paris has 11 wickets after enjoying a golden streak of 2/22, 2/28, 2/36, 3/22 and 1/7 in his last five matches.

Sydney Sixers Form

The Sixers have won five of their last six matches, with the other match rained-off.

The Sixers’ late charge for the playoffs has been given a huge boost by the in-form Steve Smith. Babar Azam has struggled to pass 200 runs for the season but he is a real match-winner if he can get a start at the crease.

Jack Edwards is joint fourth on the wickets list with 15 (econ 8.08), including a record haul of 5/26 and two-plus wickets in four of his nine bowling innings’. Mitchell Starc has only been with the Sixers for the last two matches due to his Ashes commitments, but he took 1/31 against the Thunder and 4/35 against the Heat.

The Stars also have two bowlers on 11 wickets for the season: Joel Davies (econ 5.45) and Ben Drawshuis (econ 8.15), with the latter eating up the opposition in the last four matches, returning figures of 2/47, 2/25 and 4/13.

The Scorchers have home ground advantage by virtue of finishing top of the table, a prospect which is motivating Scorchers’ bowler Jhye Richardson, who took 4/16 in the win over the Stars to secure top spot on the table.

“It's awesome and with 48,500 people it's an amazing atmosphere. To be able to host the final, it's always an advantage. Hopefully, we can recreate some of this on Tuesday. Putting back to back performances on the board is one of the hardest things in cricket but credit to Finn Allen as 130 chase could be tricky at times. If we can do something like we did tonight, I hold ourselves in good stead. The teams don't like coming here - it's a long flight for the Hurricanes,” said Richardson after the win over the Stars.

The Sixers will be without Sam Curran for the playoffs, which is a huge blow as he has contributed heavily to the Sixers’ back-to-back wins. Curran is meeting up with the England squad to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup
