Man City don't have a good record at Anfield, and after a tough midweek encounter in Paris, I'm backing Liverpool to take all three points.
- Liverpool have won 7 of their last 9 matches (all comps)
- Liverpool have scored 26 goals this season (all comps).
- Manchester City have failed to win in 17 of their last 18 visits to Anfield (all comps).
- Manchester City lost 2-0 in their last match against PSG (Champions League).
- Manchester City have conceded 1 goal in 6 matches (English Premier League).
Head to Head
Man City holds the edge with four wins over Liverpool's three. However, City have lost three times in their last five EPL visits to Anfield.
Liverpool Form
Liverpool bounced back after their disappointing draw against Brentford last weekend by thrashing Porto 5-1 away in their midweek Champions League match. The Reds are the only remaining unbeaten side left in the English Premier League.
Mo Salah continued his rich vein of form by netting a brace against Porto on Tuesday, taking his current tally to 8 goals in 8 games in all competitions this season. That includes five EPL goals.
Sadio Mane is showing the form that took Liverpool to their first EPL title in the 2019-2020 season, with 3 goals in the league so far.
Diego Jota has also had an excellent start to the season. However, Jurgen Klopp may look to Roberto Firmino to start on Sunday. The Brazilian scored twice during the week and is a better defensive option than Jota.
Liverpool Team News
Trent Alexander-Arnold picked up an injury during training on Monday that resulted in him missing the trip to Portugal. He looks unlikely to be ready for Sunday's match. There is plenty of cover in Joe Gomez or James Milner to play at right-back.
Manchester City Form
Manchester City lost 2-0 away to Paris Saint-Germain, which was their third defeat this season in all competitions.
Although this will be Manchester City's third stern test in the last two weeks, Pep Guardiola will look to rally his men once more against an in-form Liverpool side. He will be expecting a similar display to last weekend when they outplayed Chelsea at the Bridge.
Raheem Sterling has not had a great start to the season, scoring only once in 6 EPL games. He has however scored twice in his last three league games against Liverpool.
Big summer signing Jack Grealish will look for an excellent display this weekend. He has scored 2 goals in nine starts in all competitions for his new club.
Not to be forgotten is the in-form Ferran Torres, who has scored 2 goals in four Premier League starts for City.
Manchester City Team News
Gabriel Jesus is in excellent touch since switching to a wide position. He has scored 3 goals in eight games for City this season.
Last season's talisman Ilkay Gundogan is still out with an injury.
