Spain secured a narrow victory in their final group game against Uruguay last weekend, winning 1-0.

La Roja had 68% possession and five shots in the game, with one attempt on target.

Earlier in the tournament, Spain did not have the best start to their FIFA World Cup campaign, drawing 0-0 with Cape Verde before thrashing Saudi Arabia 4-0.

La Roja have won three of their last five matches, with two draws. They scored nine goals and conceded two.

Spain have won nine of their last 12 fixtures and have reached the round of 32 without conceding a goal, giving them the advantage to come out on top against Austria on Thursday.

Austria Form

Austria left it late to secure their place in the round of 32 after settling for a share of the spoils in their final Group J match against Algeria last weekend, drawing 3-3.

Das Team had 40% possession and 11 shots in the match, with four attempts on target.

Before that result, Austria started their World Cup campaign with a 3-1 win over Jordan before losing 2-0 to the defending champions, Argentina.

Burschen have won three of their last five matches, with one defeat and one draw. They scored eight goals and conceded six.

Austria will be pleased to have reached the knockout rounds of the tournament, but they will have to produce a clinical performance to beat Spain to advance to the round of 16. However, they have historically have struggled against their opponents in recent meetings, losing six of their last eight games.
