Pakistan vs Australia Predictions - Pakistan to bite back to snatch the series win

Editor
Last updated: 41 minutes ago

Pakistan and Australia are locked at 1-1 after two competitive ODIs. Australia's win in the 2nd match leveled the series, but Pakistan is expected to respond strongly on home soil, especially with the top-order unlikely to falter again. Key players include Babar Azam (consistent run-scorer), Shaheen Afridi (wicket-taker), and Australia's Nathan Ellis (form bowler). Pakistan is backed to win the series, with standout performances predicted from both sides' stars.

  • Pakistan’s top order collapse cost them the win in the 2nd ODI.
  • Australia’s batters and bowlers all performed well to square the series.
  • Pakistan are tough to beat at home and they should hit back hard against Australia in the series decider.

Pakistan vs Australia Predictions

Australia pulled off a good win in the 2nd ODI to square the series, but Pakistan’s top-order is unlikely to crumble twice in a row on home soil.

  • Pakistan’s Babar Azam has scored 103, 68, 47 & 69 in his last 6 knocks.
  • Pakistan’s Shadab Khan has scored 36, 22 & 71 in his last 4 innings.
  • Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi took 3/36 in the 2nd ODI.
  • Australia’s Josh Inglis has scored 36, 60, 72 & 51 in 5 innings.
  • Australia’s Matt Renshaw hit 61 & 43 in his 2 innings in the series.
  • Australia’s Nathan Ellis took 4/33 in the 2nd ODI.

Head-to-Head

Pakistan have won three and lost two of their last five ODIs against Australia. Pakistan won the first match in the series by five wickets with 45 balls to spare.

Pakistan Form

Babar Azam scored just 16 in the 2nd ODI, but he has scored 47-plus in four of his previous five innings. Five of Pakistan’s top six scored 16 or less, and they only managed to reach 190 thanks to batters seven and eight adding 59 for the 7th wicket. Shadab Khan hit three sixes in his 104-ball innings of 71 while Arafat Minhas hit four fours in his 43-ball 33.

Shaheen Shah Afridi has figures of 2/36, 3/113, 2/54 and 3/36 in his last five innings and is worth backing to take two or more wickets in the match.

Australia Form

After struggling to score 200 in the 1st ODI of the series, the Aussies bounced back by scoring 231/9 off their 50 overs. Josh Inglis (51), Cameron Green (53), Matt Renshaw (43) and Oliver Peake (31) all put in a good shift with the bat.

Nathan Ellis has taken 2/26, 2/45 and 4/33 in his last three innings and is looking in great form with the ball. Matthew Short offered great support with figures of 3/36, knocking over two of Pakistan’s top six.

Team news

Pakistan are likely to stick with the same side for the third match running, and Shadab Khan’s strong batting form down the order is adding great strength to his side. Sufyan Moqim is being touted to be given a run but including him would affect the balance of the side.

Marnus Labuschagne’s struggles with the bat are putting pressure on his place in the side although the selectors are likely to keep faith with his for the decider rather than blooding Liam Scott.

Pakistan (possible XI): Sahibzada Farhan, Maaz Sadaqat, Babar Azam, Ghazi Ghouri, Arafat Minhas, Salman Agha, Abdul Samad, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Afridi (c), Haris Rauf, Abrar Ahmed.

Australia (possible XI): Alex Carey, Matt Short, Josh Inglis (c), Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Matt Renshaw, Oli Peake, Matt Kuhnemann, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Tanveer Sangha.

Verdict

I’m backing Pakistan to claim the series win, with Shaheen Shah Afridi, Babar Azam and Nathan Ellis worth backing to perform with bat and ball.
