Sunrisers currently hold second place based on net run rate while Welsh Fire are in fourth but can leap up with a win. Sunrisers Leeds are favoured to triumph thanks to Mitchell Marsh's superb form and all-round team strength. Head-to-Head

Sunrisers Leeds (playing as the Northern Superchargers) have won two and lost two of their last five matches in The Hundred matches against the Welsh Fire.

Sunrisers Leeds Form

Sunrisers Leeds come into this fixture full of confidence after a superb all-round performance in their previous match against Birmingham Phoenix. Batting first, they posted 169 before restricting Birmingham to 124 to seal a convincing 45-run victory.

Their top order again played a major role in setting up the result. Mitchell Marsh continued his outstanding tournament with 34 from 23 balls, while Ryan Rickelton produced the standout innings, scoring 65 from 37 deliveries. Their contributions gave Sunrisers a strong platform and allowed the middle order to push the total beyond Birmingham’s reach.

The bowlers then backed up the batting effort with an excellent display. Brydon Carse was highly effective, taking 2/17 from his 20 balls, while Matthew Potts also made a major impact with three wickets. Marsh remains the key man for Sunrisers, having scored 324 runs in six matches at a superb strike rate of 178.

Welsh Fire Form

Welsh Fire will be looking for a strong response after suffering a heavy nine-wicket defeat against Manchester Super Giants in their previous match. Batting first, they reached 155, but Manchester chased the target with 31 balls to spare.

Fire had started well with the bat, thanks to impressive contributions from Matthew Short and Phil Salt. Short played the leading hand with 71 from 47 balls, while Salt added a fluent 48. Their partnership gave Welsh Fire the chance to post a much bigger total, but the rest of the batting line-up failed to build on that platform.

That lack of support left Fire with only a middling score, and they struggled badly with the ball. Defending 155, they needed early wickets to apply pressure, but the Super Giants batters controlled the chase from the start. Sam Cook was the only Welsh Fire bowler to strike and the attack will need a much sharper display here.

Team news

Headingley usually offers a batting-friendly surface with true bounce and early value for stroke-makers, though seamers can find new-ball movement and slightly more assistance as the match progresses later on.

Sunrisers Leeds (possible XI): Mitchell Marsh, Ryan Rickelton, Harry Brook, Dan Brook, Dan Lawrence, Zak Crawley (c), Matthew Revis, Brydon Carse, Matthew Potts, Nathan Ellis, Reece Topley, Abrar Ahmed.

Welsh Fire (possible XI): Phil Salt (c), Matthew Short, Jordan Cox, Rachin Ravindra, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Marco Jansen, Joe Root, Ben Kellaway, Chris Woakes, Lockie Ferguson, Sam Cook.

Verdict

Sunrisers Leeds look good to back for the win, with Mitchell Marsh’s superb form worth backing to get among the runs. Also worth backing with bat and ball are Brydon Carse, Matthew Short and Sam Cook.
