St Kitts and Nevis Patriots will be desperate for a strong start after three successive seasons of league-stage exits. Jason Holder’s side have too often been slow out of the blocks, and they face a demanding opening challenge against one of the strongest teams in the competition.

Much will depend on the top order. Andre Fletcher enjoyed an excellent 2025 campaign, scoring 386 runs, and he will be expected to give the Patriots a solid platform alongside Johnson Charles. Alick Athanaze has an important role in the middle order, where he must help build partnerships with Kyle Mayers and Dasun Shanaka.

The Patriots also have useful lower-order hitting through Holder, Obed McCoy and Nikhil Chaudhary, giving them options if they need quick runs at the back end of the innings.

With the ball, Ashmead Nedd and Mayers must make early inroads against a powerful Trinbago Knight Riders batting line-up. Waqar Salamkheil was impressive last season with 15 wickets and will be central through the middle overs alongside Holder. Naseem Shah, McCoy and Shanaka will also need to provide strong support against a deep and experienced TKR side.

Trinbago Knight Riders Form

Trinbago Knight Riders begin the season as defending champions after peaking at the perfect time last year. Nicholas Pooran’s side had some difficult moments during the league phase, but they came good when it mattered most and edged Guyana Amazon Warriors in a tense final.

That victory secured TKR’s fifth CPL title, making them the most successful team in the tournament’s history. Pooran will want his players to use that winning pedigree, as well as their strong record against the Patriots, to make another fast start.

Their batting line-up looks formidable. Colin Munro and Alex Hales scored more than 800 runs between them last season, giving TKR one of the most dangerous opening combinations in the competition. Pooran was also outstanding with 426 runs and remains the key figure in the middle order.

Matthew Breetzke and Kieron Pollard add further experience and power, while Akeal Hosein, Justin Greaves and Sunil Narine strengthen the lower middle order.

TKR’s bowling attack also has excellent variety. Hosein and Narine will be important with the new ball and through the middle overs, especially against a Patriots top order with plenty of attacking intent. Usman Tariq was superb last season, taking 20 wickets, and will again be expected to control the scoring rate. Dominic Drakes, Terrance Hinds and Greaves complete a well-balanced attack.
