The away team secured two more tries and one conversion in the second half to easily beat Southland 41-14. 

The Blue and Gold faced Canterbury twice during last season, winning 38-36 before losing 36-28 in the NPC final

Otago have had regular success at home recently, but they face one of their bogey teams on their own turf, having suffered seven defeats in their last eight clashes against Canterbury.

Canterbury scored four tries and three conversions in the first half against Auckland last weekend to lead 26-21 at half-time.

Canterbury scored two more tries and a conversion in the second half to beat Auckland 38-31 at home. 

The Red and Blacks last faced Otago away from home in the 2024 NPC season, recording a comfortable 34-16 victory. 

Canterbury will be aiming for back-to-back victories at the start of their new season when they travel to face Otago this weekend, having regularly beaten their opponents in their own backyard, including a 34-16 triumph in 2024.
