Liverpool vs Chelsea Predictions

Liverpool bounced back from their derby defeat to Everton with a routine 2-0 victory at Sheffield United last weekend, but the Reds have been well below their usual standards at home, which is a worry for them. Chelsea are a solid side and I'm tipping them to win to nil at Anfield.

  • Liverpool have lost their last 4 home matches (Premier League).
  • Liverpool have failed to score in 4 of their last 5 home matches (Premier League).
  • Liverpool have seen under 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 home matches (Premier League).
  • Chelsea have won 7 of their last 10 matches (all competitions).
  • Chelsea have seen under 2.5 goals in 8 of their last 9 matches (Premier League).
  • Chelsea have kept 7 clean sheets in their last 10 matches (all competitions).

Head-to-Head

The two sides have met 187 times, with Liverpool holding an 82-64 advantage over Chelsea, with 41 draws.

Liverpool eased past Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the reverse fixture this campaign. Two goals from Sadio Mane in the second half secured a 2-0 win for the Reds.

Liverpool Form

Liverpool ended a run of four straight Premier League defeats last weekend when beating bottom of the table Sheffield United 2-0 at Bramall Lane.

Curtis Jones opened the scoring just after half time and Kean Bryan’s own goal sealed all three points for Liverpool.

It was the first time in five games that Liverpool scored two or more goals, and it was their first clean sheet in eight matches.

Liverpool are winless in their last six Premier League games at Anfield, including losing the last four in a row.

The Reds have only scored two goals in their last six at home and conceded nine - a run that has seen them drop to sixth in the Premier League.

Liverpool Injuries and Team News

Goalkeeper Alisson is set to return for Liverpool after missing the Sheffield United match for personal reasons.

Fabinho is also likely to return to the squad after missing the last four games through injury.
Captain Jordan Henderson is out with an abductor injury, so Nat Phillips should retain his place in the back four alongside Ozan Kabak.

Caoimhin Kelleher is doubtful with a knock and the Reds are still without long-term absentees Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Diogo Jota.

Chelsea Form

Chelsea extended their unbeaten run to 10 games in all competitions with a 0-0 draw against Manchester United last weekend.

In a game of few chances, Chelsea controlled possession and had 18 shots on goal, with Callum Hudson-Odoi closest to scoring with a dipping volley in the first-half.

The Blues remain unbeaten under Thomas Tuchel, winning six and drawing three of nine matches played in all competitions.

Chelsea have won four of their last five away games in all competitions, scored six and conceded two.

Chelsea Injuries and Team News

Callum Hudson-Odoi should return for Chelsea after sustaining a knee injury against Man United, but centre-back Thiago Silva is ruled out with a thigh injury.

Tuchel made three changes for the 0-0 draw with United, leaving out Timo Werner, Jorginho and Marcos Alonso.

After scoring just two goals in their last three, Tuchel may bring Werner into the starting XI to partner Olivier Giroud up front.

Liverpool have been exceptionally poor at Anfield of late and Chelsea have what it takes to pile more misery on the Merseyside club.
