English Premier League Predictions - 19-20 September, Matchday 5

Last updated: 38 minutes ago

This analysis covers the English Premier League’s Matchday 5 (19-20 September 2026) with expert predictions for four matches. Newcastle and Hull are both in form, suggesting a tight match under 2.5 total goals. Everton are favored against a leaky Ipswich defense, with over 2.5 goals recommended. Notts Forest are expected to edge struggling Coventry in a low-scoring game. Leeds look strong at home versus Crystal Palace, likely scoring 2+ goals. Key tip: Under three goals for Newcastle-Hull and Forest-Coventry, but expect goals in the other fixtures.

  • Newcastle and Hull to both keep it tight at the back.
  • Goals to flow between Everton and Ipswich.
  • Goals to be scarce between Notts Forest and Coventry.
  • Leeds to score plenty against Palace.

English Premier League Predictions - 19-20 September 2026, Matchday 5

Newcastle vs Hull

Newcastle look marginally stronger despite sitting below Hull, remaining unbeaten through their opening three league games and averaging two goals per home match. Hull have also started well, collecting eight points and scoring in every league outing to lay an early claim to fourth spot on the table.

That makes both teams to score and over 1.5 goals an attractive angle. Every one of the last eight league meetings produced at least two goals, while both sides have shown enough attacking threat to contribute again. I like the look of a Hull win at 5.00, but Newcastle’s home form makes that look a bit iffy.

Hull have been goalless in two of their last three matches and four goals in five, while Newcastle have five in their last four, so this could be a gritty, low-scorer.

Everton vs Ipswich

Everton look slightly stronger on current form, sitting eighth and remaining unbeaten across their opening four matches. Their home record has also been solid, averaging two goals scored per game, while Ipswich are conceding 3.5 goals per away match.

That points towards an Everton draw no bet, with over 1.5 goals also worth considering. Ipswich carry genuine attacking threat on the road, but they are allowing 16.2 shots per game and have lost two of their last three league matches. I’m backing an Everton win but with Ipswich scoring 10 goals in their last five I think a sensible bet is over 2.5 match goals.

Notts Forest vs Coventry

Nottingham look the more reliable option after taking five points from four games and winning 2-1 at Aston Villa. Coventry remain bottom after four straight defeats and have yet to score, while conceding 10 goals.

That points towards Nottingham to win and under 2.5 goals as an attractive combination. Forest have also won four of their last five home league meetings with Coventry, while the visitors are averaging two goals conceded per away game and still waiting for their first league goal. Forest have been goalless in their last two matches at home so there’s no signs of the floodgates opening.

Leeds vs Crystal Palace

Leeds look the stronger form option, sitting third with eight points and coming off a 4-1 win over Newcastle. They have also won eight of their last nine home league meetings with Crystal Palace, while the visitors have lost three of four this season.

That makes Leeds draw no bet an appealing approach, offering protection if the match finishes level. Palace have scored in three straight league games, but their defence is conceding heavily and allowing 17.8 shots per match. Leeds have scored 11 goals in their last four home matches, so I’m backing them to score at least two goals against a Palace side that has conceded 11 in four Premier League matches.

Verdict

I’m backing under three goals in the matches between Newcastle and Hull as well as in the Notts Forest-Coventry clash, while it looks like goals for Leeds against Crystal Palace and two or more goals between Everton and Ipswich.
