South Africa vs Mozambique Predictions

Normally South Africa will be huge favourites but given that most of their players will be playing a friendly later in the week, I am backing Mozambique to get the win.

South Africa Form

South Africa should be full of confidence given their recent run of results. They are starting to get back to being one of the top sides on the continent.

Bafana Bafana are unbeaten in 24 of their last 25 matches in all competitions. South Africa won their last three matches in World Cup qualifying, beating Benin 2-0 away, Lesotho 2-0 at home and Egypt 3-1 away.

In May, South African beat Malawi over two legs in the Africa Nations Championship qualification, losing 1-0 away but bouncing back to win 2-0 at home.

South Africa Team News

South Africa have selected a young and largely second-string side for the COSAFA Cup this year. They are playing friendlies at the same time and have opted to keep their best players for those fixtures.

Mozambique Form

Mozambique lost their last fixture 5-1 away to Algeria, the fixture was played in March this year. A week before, in the same tournament, Mozambique defeated Uganda 3-1 away from home.

Prior to those results, in the AFCON qualifiers, Mozambique beat Guinea-Bissau, lost to Mali and won 3-0 against Eswatini.

Mozambique Team News

Mozambique is not known as a powerhouse on the African continent, but they do tend to get some good results. They have a strong squad with the COSAFA Cup their only focus.

Verdict

South Africa v Mozambique

Mozambique are backed to beat a Bafana Bafana side who are missing their top players.
