Mozambique lost their last fixture 5-1 away to Algeria, the fixture was played in March this year. A week before, in the same tournament, Mozambique defeated Uganda 3-1 away from home.

Prior to those results, in the AFCON qualifiers, Mozambique beat Guinea-Bissau, lost to Mali and won 3-0 against Eswatini.
