Zambia vs Comoros Predictions - Zambia set for narrow COSAFA Cup victory

The Zambia vs Comoros matchup in the COSAFA Cup presents an intriguing contest, with both teams facing squad challenges. Historically, Zambia has the upper hand with four wins in their past six meetings against Comoros. While Zambia recently suffered a heavy defeat 5-0 to Russia, they face an added scheduling complexity by fielding a weakened team for this match due to concurrent fixtures. Comoros, though inconsistent, comes off a win against Chad but has struggled lately, losing three of their last four games. Both nations' focus is also divided due to simultaneous fixtures outside the COSAFA Cup.

Zambia vs Comoros Predictions

Neither side is at full strength for this tournament which makes this game tough to call. On the balance of things, I fancy Zambia to get the three points.

  • Zambia have only played 1 match this year.
  • Zambia lost their last match 5.0.
  • Comoros have lost 3 of their last 4 matches to nil.
  • Comoros have scored 1 goal in their last 4 matches.

Head to Head

In their six previous encounters, Zambia have won four and Comoros one. There was also one draw.

Zambia Form

Zambia have only played one match in 2025 after facing quite a few cancellations this year. That means that they have much to catch up on ahead of the World Cup qualifiers later this year.

That one fixture Zambia did play they were beaten 5-0 by Russia away from home. It was not a performance that Zambia will look back on proudly.

However, Zambia are playing two games on the same day with a friendly against Sudan also taking place on Friday. Their COSAFA Cup team is the weaker squad, so despite their proud history in this competition, they will not be anywhere near full strength.

Comoros Form

Comoros’ form has been inconsistent of late, mostly below what we’ve come to expect from them over the last few years.

While Comoros beat Chad 1-0 in their last match, they suffered three successive defeats before that. They lost to Mali and Malawi twice, scoring no goals in any of those fixtures.

They had been on a four-match unbeaten run before that string of results. However, much like Zambia, Comoros have sent their stronger side to face Kosovo on 9 June, the same day as their second COSAFA Cup game against Botswana.

Verdict

I am backing Zambia to win this fixture. It could be a win to nil.
