Mamelodi Sundowns have strengthened their squad with the signing of former Orlando Pirates defender Deano Van Rooyen, while Thabo Cele has emerged as another player firmly on the club’s radar after securing his release from Kaizer Chiefs.

The Brazilians have moved quickly in the transfer market as they look to maintain their dominance domestically and compete strongly on the continental stage. Van Rooyen’s arrival has already been confirmed, while talks over Cele are understood to be progressing quickly.

Deano Van Rooyen Leaves Pirates

Mamelodi Sundowns have officially completed the signing of Deano Van Rooyen on a multi-year deal after the defender parted ways with Orlando Pirates. The 29-year-old right-back joins the champions as they deal with injuries to Khuliso Mudau and Zuko Mdunyelwa, increasing the need for defensive cover.

Van Rooyen made 51 appearances for Pirates and won five trophies during his time with the Soweto giants. However, he played just 15% of the league minutes for Pirates last season.

Thabo Cele's Shock Move

Thabo Cele is now being strongly linked with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns after Kaizer Chiefs agreed to part ways with the midfielder. Sundowns have engaged the 29-year-old over a possible move and are expected to confirm the deal shortly.

Cele would add experience and depth to the Sundowns midfield after previously playing in Europe before returning to South Africa. He struggled for minutes at Chiefs last season and was deemed surplus to requirement by new coach, Fernando Da Cruz.
