Bundesliga predictions – Round 6

Elversberg vs Augsburg

Elversberg began their debut Bundesliga campaign superbly, beating Bayer Leverkusen 3-2 and Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-3, but their last three matches have yielded just one point. A 1-0 defeat at Union Berlin followed a goalless draw with Schalke and a 2-1 home loss to Bayern.

Augsburg have eight points from five games with 13 goals that included a 2-2 draw against mighty Bayern Munich in their latest outing. They also scored four at Eintracht Frankfurt and three against Schalke. Elversberg’s early attacking promise contrasts with Augsburg’s greater consistency in front of goal.

Augsburg look good for the win but their hosts have scored 16 goals in their last five matches so this sounds like a both teams to score option.

Hamburger SV vs Stuttgart

Hamburg have bounced back from a dreadful opening three rounds which saw them lose to Dortmund, Mainz and Leipzig by an aggregate 12-0. The promoted hosts then defeated Köln 2-1 and Hoffenheim 3-2, although their 15 goals conceded remain the league’s highest total. Nicolás Capaldo is among their scorers.

Stuttgart have been less consistent in recording two wins and three defeats in five league outings, but last weekend’s 2-0 success at Paderborn followed a welcome recovery. Josha Vagnoman is among their scorers while their attacking options also include Deniz Undav. Stuttgart’s quality may tell but Hamburg’s improvement suggests chances at both ends. Consider an away win or both teams to score if odds reach 1.80.

Stuttgart have won their last four match by a total score of 13-0 so I'm backing a clean sheet win.

Schalke vs Mainz

Schalke have taken five points from their five league matches that was highlighted by a 3-1 win at Union Berlin. Two goalless home draws - including one against Bayern Munich - underline their resilience, but just four league goals point to a significant attacking concern. Robin Gosens is among their scorers.

Mainz have seven points this season and have been far livelier in attack, scoring 13 times and thrashing Hamburg 5-0. Phillip Tietz has been a key scoring threat. Their latest match was a chaotic 4-3 home defeat to Leverkusen. Mainz look better equipped to exploit defensive openings although their own defence is not watertight. An away win or Mainz over 1.5 team goals merits a price check above 1.80.

Werder Bremen vs Paderborn

Werder Bremen responded well to their opening 4-1 defeat at Freiburg and are have been unbeaten in four league matches. They beat Leipzig 3-1 and Augsburg 3-2, drew 1-1 in Köln and staged a late comeback to draw 2-2 at Dortmund. Ludovit Reis and Niclas Füllkrug both scored in that dramatic recovery.

Paderborn have found their return to the top flight tougher as they have picked up just one win and one draw in five outings, netting just three times. Their 3-1 victory over Hoffenheim was followed by a 2-0 defeat to Stuttgart, while Santiago Castaneda is among their goalscorers.

The visitors are not good travellers and have been goalless in all three of their away matches in the Bundesliga this season, so this is sounding like a win to nil.

Verdict

Goals to flow between Elversberg and Augsburg and Hamburger to go down to Stuttgart without scoring.

Mainz to take a tight clash with Schalke while Werder Bremen to keep a clean sheet in beating Paderborn.
