Proteas looking for third semi-final win over England

Speaking ahead of the World Cup semi-final against England Women, the Proteas’ star all-rounder Marizanne Kapp stressed to the media that, when it comes to a semi-final there are no favourites. She was answering a reporter who asked if the Proteas considered themselves favourites having beaten England in the last two whiteball World Cup semi-finals they have played against them.

“I always look at it like there's no favourites. It's whoever rocks up on the day and plays the best cricket. We are experienced and I feel like we are in a better place having reached the finals in the last couple of World Cups, but at the end of the day when we rock up here it's a clean slate, and it's whoever performs on the day,” said Kapp, who scored a match-winning 81 not out against India in a crucial group match.

Proteas peaking at the right time

Kapp also picked up 2/27 in the match against India on the back of figures of 3/23 against Pakistan in their previous match. She was confident that the Proteas are well prepared for their semi-final clash.

“We've been putting in the hard work and I always believe this is a reason for everything happening. I actually feel like we've performed at 60% to be completely honest, but that excites me because that tells me that the best is yet to come. We're not close to playing our best cricket, and hopefully we've been saving it for that semi final.”
