For the 1892/93 season, the league was renamed the Football League First Division, with Sunderland emerging as champions.
Aston Villa became the first team to dominate the First Division, securing the title in 1894, 1896, 1897, 1899 and 1900.

At the start of the 1992/93 season, the league changed its name from the First Division to the Premier League, with Manchester United recording their first title in 26 years, and they would go on to dominate the new division, clinching 11 titles from 1993 to 2009 under manager Alex Ferguson.
