Freiburg vs Aston Villa Team News & Squads
Freiburg coach Julian Schuster has led his side to their first major Cup final in just his second season in charge of the club.
"I see pressure as something positive because it challenges and motivates me to take on challenges directly and to do everything necessary to successfully complete a task," said Schuster in a pre-match press conference.
"I think that, when you looked at people's faces and saw the glint in their eyes, you could feel what it meant to everybody. It was even noticeable throughout the week before. That sense of anticipation is particularly special and obviously very important. Even then, plenty of people said that they had already booked for Istanbul.
"The sense of support and solidarity in the city is now even stronger than it already was. It's great. That's the power of football: that it can captivate so many people and bring them together. It's a really nice feeling and one we're enjoying at the moment," added Schuster.
Aston Villa are chasing a first major European title in 44 years and will come into the final on the back of a superb 4-2 win over Liverpool on the weekend to secure their place in the Champions League next season.
"I have my own experiences before in this competition and different momentum as well, but it is completely different. In football, everything you have done before, though it may be fantastic, it's done. Now it is a new chapter and I want to write a new chapter here," said Villa manager Unai Emery.
“When you are not able to compete in the Champions League to fight for the title, the Europa League gives you another stage. And you have to want that competition, you have to feel it. I learned that at Sevilla. And how I pass that on to the players is very important.
“It always gives you recognition, and it also gives you a global televised platform because when you play in Europe, reaching the quarter-finals, semi-finals or the final, you are seen all over the world. It is football which can be followed everywhere on television and reaches audiences through UEFA, and gives you a stage,” added Emery.
