Villarreal to win with a clean sheet against Sevilla.
Not much goal action as Alaves host champions Barcelona.

Espanyol vs Athletic Bilbao

With three matches left in the season Espanyol are just two points above the drop zone while Bilbao are up in ninth place looking for an extra win to take them to Europe. Espanyol’s form is poor, losing four of their last five matches while Bilbao have lost three, and won two of their last five.

Espanyol’s home-ground advantage hasn’t helped their cause much over the past eight matches as they have lost five and drawn the other three. Bilbao had lost four in a row away from home before beating Alaves 4-2 in their last match.

There’s not a lot to choose between the two in terms of form, but the visitors have managed to close out some wins and are pushing for Europe so I’m backing them for the win.

Villarreal vs Sevilla

Sevilla are just three points above the drop zone while Villareal have secured Champions League football for next season and they’re unlikely to go up to second or down to fourth unless results go horribly wrong for them.

Sevilla have won three of their last five matches, including their last two in a row, but Villareal are a side in form, with three wins and a draw in their last five matches.

Villareal have won their last six home matches in a row, conceding just a single goal in each match, while Sevilla have won none of their last five matches on the road, losing the last four and scoring just one goal in their last three matches. This looks like a comfortable Villareal win to nil.

Alaves vs Barcelona

Alaves are in the drop zone and need a win if they hope to rise above any of the four teams just above them. I hold no hope for them against La Liga champions Barcelona. Alaves have two defeats and two draws in their last five matches and have picked up just two wins in their last 10 outings.

Alaves have just one home win in their last seven matches, and against a Barcelona side that has won five and drawn one of their last six matches on the road this should be a comfortable win for Barcelona.

Barca haven’t score more than two goals in an away match for their last nine matches, and Alaves have conceded more than two in a game at home just twice in their last 10 matches, so I’m backing a low-scoring match.

Getafe vs Mallorca

Mallorca have a relegation concern and will be desperate for points to stay above the drop zone. Getafe have lost three and won just once in their last five matches and look in danger of losing their place in Europe for next season.

Mallorca lost both of their last two matches at home without scoring, but Mallorca had gone 10 matches on the road without a win (seven defeats) before beating Girona 1-0 in their last match. With poor form on both sides this looks set up for a scrappy draw.

Verdict

Spanish La Liga

Wins for Athletic Bilbao and Villarreal. Alaves and Barcelona to be short on goals, while Getafe and Mallorca to muscle out a draw.
