Valencia vs Rayo Vallecano

Both teams are in a six-team battle for two places in Europe and both have two wins in their last five matches. Rayo Vallecano are unbeaten in their last six matches, while Valencia have tasted defeat in three of their last six.

At home Valencia have won four and lost four of their last eight matches, scoring one goal or less in five of those matches. Rayo Vallecano lost three in a row recently with just one goal to show for themselves, but they have won their last two away games with clean sheets.

I’m backing Rayo to win, but with home ground advantage and 12 goals in their last eight, I’m backing Valencia to find the net.

Girona vs Real Sociedad

This should be a tough scrap, with Girona in the drop zone on goal difference but with four other teams on the same points as them, so they have every chance of avoiding the drop if they can pick up a win or two in their last three matches.

The problem for Girona is that they have scraped together just two points in their last five matches. Real Sociedad are trying to hold onto a European place with six teams in the running for two places. Real have just three points from their last five matches, so neither side is in good form.

On the road Real Sociedad have lost four of their last six matches in La Liga, while Girona have four wins and a draw in their last eight home matches, keeping three clean sheets. Hard to call this, but Girona look stronger at home so I’ll back them for a score win.

Real Madrid vs Real Oviedo

Real Madrid will be deflated after losing the title race and taking a 2-0 beating from Barca in their last match, but I can’t see any way that already-relegated Real Oviedo can put up a challenge.

Real Madrid have just two wins in their last eight matches in one of their worst spells in living memory, but they have been scoring goals and have just one defeat in their last four matches. Oviedo came through a recent six-match unbeaten streak only to lose two of their last three matches, with just one goal to show for their efforts.

Real Madrid’s recent losing streak includes defeats to world-class opposition in the shape of Barcelona and Bayern Munich (twice), so don’t read too much into their ‘slump’. They have won 11 and drawn one of their last 14 matches at home, so Real Oviedo are in for a thumping.

The visitors have just one win away from home in their last 14 matches but have only failed to score in three of their last 10 matches away to Real Madrid, so this sounds like a Real Madrid win with Real Oviedo to score.

Wins for Rayo Vallecano and Real Madrid, while Girona and Real Sociedad to both score in a tough scrap.
