Girona vs Elche

Girona are in the drop zone, but a win will lift them above Elche in the table, and possibly also Levante and Osasuna. It’s not looking good for Girona, who have just three points in their last seven matches. Elche have six wins and a draw in their last 10 matches, so the impetus is with them.

Girona have been better at home, while Elche have lost eight of their last 10 matches on the road, so this is a hard one to call. With the loser destined to be relegated this should be a “calling all pockets” match-up, so I’m backing four goals or more as they both fight for their La Liga lives.

Mallorca vs Real Oviedo

Mallorca are second from bottom playing the bottom side… but they could escape the drop with a big win if a lot of results go their way. Their form is decent, with four wins and two draws in their last 10 matches. Their opponents Oviedo have just two points from six, so they are like lambs to the slaughter.

At home Mallorca are unbeaten in five matches, with three wins, while Oviedo have just one win in 10 matches on the road, failing to score in four of those matches and conceding 23 goals. I can see Mallorca scoring three or more goals as they cling for all they are worth to hopes of retaining their place in La Liga.

Getafe vs Osasuna

Getafe have their sights on snatching Celta Vigo’s Europa League spot, but if they lose or draw they could lose out on their current Conference League placing. Their opponents Osasuna are two places above the drop zone but would go down if they lose and Girona wins and Elche draws. Plenty at stake in this clash.

Osasuna have the form of a condemned side, losing their last four on the bounce, while Getafe have four points from their last three matches. Getafe’s current Achilles Heel is scoring goals (or not scoring), as they have been goalless in five of their last seven matches.

Osasuna have just two points from their last six on the road, while Getafe have been fairly strong at home, winning four of their last seven matches, so it looks a fair bet to go for the side in seventh spot playing at home over the side fighting relegation.

Betis vs Levante

Betis have secured Champions League football for next season and will finish in fifth place regardless of other results, but Levante are within the drop zone range, and their goal difference of minus-13 could see them drop if a lot of results go against them.

Levante are enjoying good form, winning their last three matches on the bounce and losing just twice in their last 10 matches. Betis have lost just twice in their last 10, with their last match being a 3-1 defeat to Champions Barcelona away from home, but they’ve secured just three wins in those 10 matches, so they have struggled to finish sides off.

Betis have also lost just twice in 10 home matches, but Levante struggle on the road, losing six and drawing two of their last 10 matches away from home. This is veering strongly towards a home win, leaving Levante reliant on results in other matches for their survival.

Wins for Getafe and Betis, with goals to flow between Girona and Elche, while Mallorca to score big against Real Oviedo.
