La Liga Predictions - 9-10 May 2026, Matchday 35

Last updated: 46 minutes ago

This article previews La Liga's Matchday 35, highlighting high-stakes battles for survival and European spots. Elche, Sevilla, and Mallorca are each strongly tipped for victory as they fight relegation or seek strong finishes. Barcelona, almost certain to claim the title, face Real Madrid in a match likely to deliver plenty of goals, given both teams’ recent attacking form at Camp Nou. Key recommendations: back home wins for Elche, Sevilla (with a clean sheet), and Mallorca, plus 4.5+ total goals in Barcelona vs Real Madrid.

La Liga Predictions - Matchday 35

Elche vs Alaves

Alaves are pushing to get out of the drop zone as the season powers to a close. One win could lift them four or five places above the drop zone, so they will throw everything at Elche. Elche are far from safe from relegation, so this should be a bruising battle.

Alaves have just one win in five matches while Elche hit three wins on the bounce before losing their last match 3-1 away to Celta Vigo. Alaves aren’t great on the road and have just two wins in their last 10 matches. Elche have won five of their last seven matches at home, so this is pointing in favour of the home side.

Sevilla vs Espanyol

The home side are one point above the drop zone and want to pack in a few wins before the season slams down on three sides to be relegated. As for the visitors, they’re just three points above the low water mark, so they are also under big pressure.

Sevilla have struggled to three defeats in five, while Espanyol have just two points from their last five matches. Espanyal have scored just one goal in their last five matches and haven’t tasted victory in 22 matches. Sevilla have just three wins in 10, but that’s a whole heap better than their visitors. This must be three points for Sevilla and I’m also backing a clean sheet.

Mallorca vs Villarreal

Mallorca are two points above the drop zone while Villareal have nothing to play for aside from securing 3rd place on the table. The visitors have 10 points from their last four matches so their form is hot, while Mallorca have four points from three matches.

Their form over their last 10 matches is pretty similar, with Villareal faring slightly better, but Villareal haven’t been travelling well. The visitors have lost five of their last 10 matches on the road, winning just twice. Mallorca have six wins and a draw in their last 10 matches, including beating Real Madrid 2-1 at the start of March.

With a goal spread of 8-3 and three wins and a draw in their last four home matches, I feel good about backing them to take the points from Villareal.

Barcelona vs Real Madrid

Real need to win their last four matches and for Barca to lose their four in order to pip them to the La Liga title, but that’s not happening this Sunday at the Camp Nou. Barca have won 13 of their last 15 matches, with six clean sheets. Real have won just two of their last seven matches, losing three times, so they’re not displaying title-winning form.

At home Barca have won 20 of their last 21 matches, scoring bundles of goals. Real have lost six and drawn one of their last 13 matches on the road, so it’s odds on for a Barca win, but I’m going to keep my cards close to my chest because the last few matches of a season often throw up surprises.

The two sides have scored a combined 5-plus goals in their last three meetings at the Camp Nou. With Real needing to throw everything at Barca in a last-ditch attempt to keep their faint title hopes alive, I’m backing a goal fest.

Verdict

Wins for Elche, Sevilla, Mallorca, while bags of goals await fans at the Camp Nou as Real Madrid take a final tilt at the title.
