Joburg Super Kings vs MI Cape Town Predictions

The Kings’ opening match of 2024 against Sunrisers Eastern Cape was rained off. After finishing bottom of the table in 2023, MI Cape Town made a great start to 2024 by racking up their highest SA20 score… only to lose to Durban’s Super Giants on the DLS Method.

MI Cape Town’s Ryan Rickelton hit 6 fours and 6 sixes in his 87 against Durban’s Super Giants.
MI Cape Town’s Kieron Pollard slammed 31 off 14 balls against Durban’s Super Giants.
Joburg Super Kings’ Faf du Plessis (369 runs) was 2nd on the SA20 runs list.
Joburg Super Kings’ Reeza Hendricks has scored 85, 49 & 52 in his last 7 whiteball innings.

Head-to-Head

In the inaugural SA20 last season, MI Cape Town and Joburg Super Kings both won their home matches against one another.

Joburg Super Kings Form

After winning their last four completed group matches in a row in the 2023 season, the Kings were rocked out of the tournament in the semi-final by a Sunrisers’ team that had bounced back from three losses out of four.

Sunrisers packed on a daunting 213/5 off their 20 overs, despite a superb performance with the ball by Lizaad Williams (4/36).

Reeza Hendricks smashed 96 off 54 balls as the Kings chased bravely, only to fall 14 runs short of their target after their 20 overs.

Joburg Super Kings Team News

The Kings are looking strong for a title challenge with a strong batting line-up in the shape of Faf du Plessis, Reeza Hendricks, David Wiese, Donovan Ferreira, Leus du Plooy, Wayne Madsen and Moeen Ali. Their bowling line-up is well balanced between explosive pace and crafty spin and controlled medium pace - Nandre Burger, Gerald Coetzee, Romario Shepherd, Lizaad Williams, David Wiese, Sam Cook, Moeen Ali and the magical Imran Tahir.

MI Cape Town Form

MI Cape Town lost their opening match of the SA20 against Durban’s Super Giants by 11 runs on the DLS method.

Ryan Rickelton slammed 87 off 51 balls to guide MI Cape Town to 207/5 off their 20 overs, MI Cape Town’s highest score in SA20 cricket.

The Giants were going well on 177/6 off 16.3 over when rain ended the match. The Giants won on the DLS method, although Cape Town were looking good to bowl the Giants out to claim the win.

MI Cape Town Team News

MI Cape Town are unlikely to make any changes to their side having played superbly in their opener against Durban’s Super Giants.

Verdict

Joburg Super Kings v MI Cape Town

I am backing MI Cape Town to win. I am also backing Ryan Rickelton to top score for MI Cape Town.

Faf du Plessis is a good bet to top score for the Joburg Super Kings.

MI Cape Town win
