Sunrisers Eastern Cape vs Joburg Super Kings Predictions

The Kings finished above the Sunrisers on the SA20 table in 2023, but the Eastern Cape side rose to the occasion in the semi-final to knock the Kings out of a tournament they had been dominating. The Kings had won five of their last six completed matches, only to be beaten by the Sunrisers, who had lost three of their last four completed matches.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s Aiden Markram (366 runs) was 3rd on the SA20 runs list in 2023 and was named Player of the Series.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s Dawid Malan has scored 50, 87 & 31 in his last 3 whiteball innings.
Joburg Super Kings’ Faf du Plessis (369 runs) was 2nd on the SA20 runs list.
Joburg Super Kings’ Reeza Hendricks has scored 85, 49 & 52 in his last 7 whiteball innings.

Head-to-Head

The Joburg Super Kings won both of their group matches against the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, only to lose in the semi-final against the Sunrisers by 14 runs.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape Form

The Sunrisers peaked at the right time last season, just in time for the playoffs. After beating the in-form Joburg Super Kings in the semi-final, with Sunrisers skipper Markram blitzing an unforgettable 100 off 58 balls, they went on to beat top-of-the-table Pretoria Capitals by four wickets in the final.

The Capitals were rolled for 135 with three balls in hand. Roelof van der Merwe was the destroyer-in-chief, nabbing figures of 4/31.

Adam Rossington got the chase off to a great start with 57 off 30 balls as Sunrisers raced to the win in the 17th over.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape Team News

Sunrisers have brought some exciting batting talent into their squad in the shape of T20 star Dawid Malan and all-rounder Liam Dawson, while Australian Daniel Worrall’s pace will be used to keep opposition batters on the back foot.

Joburg Super Kings Form

After winning their last four completed group matches in a row in the 2023 season, the Kings were rocked out of the tournament in the semi-final by a Sunrisers’ team that had bounced back from three losses out of four.

Sunrisers packed on a daunting 213/5 off their 20 overs, despite a superb performance with the ball by Lizaad Williams (4/36).

Reeza Hendricks smashed 96 off 54 balls as the Kings chased bravely, only to fall 14 runs short of their target after their 20 overs.

Joburg Super Kings Team News

The Kings are looking in good shape for a title challenge with a powerful batting line-up in the shape of Faf du Plessis, Reeza Hendricks, David Wiese, Donovan Ferreira, Leus du Plooy, Wayne Madsen and Moeen Ali. Their bowling line-up is well balanced between explosive pace and crafty spin and controlled medium pace - Nandre Burger, Gerald Coetzee, Romario Shepherd, Lizaad Williams, David Wiese, Sam Cook, Moeen Ali and the magical Imran Tahir.

Verdict

Sunrisers Eastern Cape v Joburg Super Kings

I am backing Sunrisers Eastern Cape to win. I am also backing Aiden Markram to top score for Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

Faf du Plessis is a good bet to top score for the Joburg Super Kings.
